When you say 'spotlight', which light are you specifically referring to?  Is it the fog light?

The lights located at bottom of front bumper, below the main light cluster.

Presume is a wiring problem as it works when car in reverse.

The foglights will normally engage when the car is in reverse and switch off again when reverse is disengaged.  Do you drive with the dash light switch in position '0' or in the dipped position (with the foglights on)?

Forgive me if I'm asking the obvious, but have you checked it with the steering pointing straight ahead.

Whatever the angle of the front wheels when in reverse both the fog lights come on, but as they are also cornering lights if you checked when the steering is turned it can give the impression the light on one side is not working when going forwards.

Just a thought.

Yeah that's what I was getting at as well  - if the OP is using the 'auto' lights then the foglights will obviously not be engaged (as actual foglights) in forward gears but they will still come on in reverse and of course will engage right or left intermittently as cornering lights

Will check it out. Thanks for advice. Use auto lights alright.

More than likely its your cornering lights you're observing then depending on which way you have the steering turned. I doubt if we'll see separate front fog lights appearing in cars too much longer as adaptive lighting / integrated all weather lights will make them pretty much redundant

No need to feel silly, that's what this forum is for. Glad its sorted.

To be fair the light functions can be quite confusing as its not a straightforward on/off anymore so I wouldn't feel silly about it
