Chipped Octy vRS 'lumpy' around 3-4K rpms - Need N75J???

Featured Replies

[Ladies and] Gentlemen,

My 2002, 89K mile, Jabba'd Octy vRS has recently started to feel 'lumpy' around the 3-4K rev mark, something Mike @ Jabba pointed out as a 'blip', but it is now much more pronounced. To get the car to accelerate past this, it seems as thought I have to 'force' her through it, something I didn't have to do before.

At the weekend, I clean the MAF, in icopryl alcohol, and wash and re-oiled my Green filter panel. I did 30 miles on Super 97 ron today, and all this has made revving and low end power noticeably better (the fileter was filthy) BUT the lumpy-ness around 3.5K is still there.

Would putting a an N75J wastegate in 'smooth out' this surging, and do I need to worry about limp mode if I do?

Thanks

Big Rich

P.S. I can source an N75J (part no. 034906283J) from www.vagparts.com for

Hmmm - the N75J will have different characteristics from your current N75 valve, and this will affect your map across the whole rev range while on boost. I'd say there's no guarantee it'd fix your problem, either.

You should only use the N75 that your map is based on otherwise it'll cause problems. Going from the F to the J on a remapped car usually results in a healthy bottom end but severe drop off at the top.

Best bet is to speak to Jabba and see what they suggest.

I've had a 2nd thought, could be the clutch slpping, never been changed (to my knowledge, pre-owned), done 40k+ chipped (89k on clock). If so, I'll need a replacement, will go uprated (appears to be cheaper than OEM), any suggestions on a clutch setup (SACHS, G60 etc)?

Thanks

Rich
