Is my paintwork oil or water based?

Featured Replies

Lately, have been gleaning info from this forum section, as I have two fair sized stone-chips on my bonnet. I have already purchased a touch-up kit from fleabay & can confirm from the smell that it is either cellulose or acrylic, (base coat + clear).

The chips were there when I purchased the car, but the seller said he would touch them up for me. Now, a month on, i'm not happy with said touch-up, so I went back & asked him what paint he had used. He replied "just silver water-based". The chips have now taken on a slight browny/rusty appearance, btw, he did not put a clear coat on top!

Could anyone tell me if my paintwork is water based, or not? Thanks. P.S. 2008 fabia in brilliant silver.

All modern paint is water based

But I cant tell you what the content is or how its is achieved

Hi Chris, so in your opinion what would the ramifications be, if I were to use the touch-up kit? i.e. reactions.

No reactions.

The touch up kit is the same formula .... As far as I know

Use a pin or a cocktail stick to fill the chip not the brush
