Gearbox drain plug/ oil leak from gearbox/engine junction, dogbone.

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I have been milling around on this forum for ages and have gathered some very useful information which has led me to make several DIY jobs! What a fantastic place it is, and bunch of guys you are for information!

Basically, my gearbox is quite noisy. I have a whurring input shaft bearing - so was going to change the oil to see if it makes any difference and also just to change it as the car has done over 100,000 miles. I have just been under the car to check the drain hole etc, and it seems it is a 18/19mm hex fitment, not the spline socket which I have read about. Any one else have this? if so are you able to confirm the correct size? I measured it and from what I could see it was 18/19mm (it was dark under there).

Also whilst I was under there I did notice a lot of oil around the gearbox/engine junction. I have regularly checked the engine oil and it appears to have lost none since its last service 3k ago.... Has got me thinking it may be a leak from the gearbox? is this possible?

Lastly:

Basically, I have the characteristic on/off throttle delay/lag with an accompanying clunk/bang. Which manifests itself as a clunk/bang when changing gear (unless I change super smoothly, in which case I can get it to not make any noise), and at low revs when I quickly push the accelerator down. So, was going to put a powerflex dogmount bush in there to see if it solves the problem. My question is, I found a tutorial a while ago of how to do it, but I cant for the life of me find it again, could anyone point me in the right direction please?

thank you muchly,

Mike.

Also is I think this is the correct bush? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310930190876

thanks

Not sure if it's just vRS but some models have this type of dogbone.....

Mine is like this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331000291620?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I am actually thinking of just buying the whole unit, as per the link above, Im not really bothered about a performance upgrade, just want it to be fresh, not jolty. I figure a whole standard unit will be considerably better than what the current one is like, also you get both bushes with an oem replacement

I put a yellow Powerflex bush in my dogbone but I didn't like the vibrations it caused so bought a standard Skoda complete unit and it's far better.
