Do you ever get shocked by the VRS's pace to BHP ratio

Featured Replies

But the r32 sound...

Made a r32 driver sweat the other day when it tried to come past me at the lights in a lane that merged. After then I backed off as it was damp with too many round abouts. More often than not they'd also be modified so my 218 bhp to their 300 + isn't a battle I'd be winning.

  • My favourite memory of the vrs concerns the famous traffic light gp.... Was at red lights on a dual carriageway (inner lane ) Audi A1 with trade plates pelting to a stop in outer lane 2 guys in sui

  • 0-40 time is probably quite impressive if you actually look at it. compared to a car that can do a lot quicker 0-60.  So again real world scenario's.  As long as you leave the traction off of course,

  • I guess whether you are shocked or not by the vRS pace depends a lot upon what you are used to. I used to think that the vRS was quite quick until I got the M135i. Now when I've been exclusively drivi

As was pointed out to me the other day, theyre n/a so usually stay around 240bhp.

So you might stand more chance than you think with that one

Autocar state that cupra/ vrs 1.4tsi has a 3.6 sec 50mph-70mph

corsa vkr 7.2 sec from 50-70mph

Fiesta st 7.1 sec grom 50-70mph

I love the little fabia vrs and that dsg box, wow and the farts you get on the up change. I can't wait to get some more power our of mine this year but saying that the power is good standard, I just want more.

Hopefully the next car I have will have dsg again I'm converted.

If you want to compare Manufacturers Official figures look at Volkswagens maybe.

Mk4 Golf V6 4Motion 204 bhp Times in all the figures are beaten by 180 ps 1.4 Twincharger.

0-50, 0-60, 0-70, 0-80, 30-50, 50-70,

then the Mk6 Golf GTI DSG,

the 1.4 TSI Twincharger times are shown as being 0.2 - 0.5 of a second slower.

&

A 205-210bhp Stage 1 Twincharger is 0.2 - 0.5 seconds faster than the standard times of a Mk6 Golf GTI DSG.

Real world times and car weights is where you can see or not what they actually can do.

It is actually heavier not lighter, and even more heavy if you take the Ballast off the rear of the hatch,

but the Estates rear suspension means you get the better traction with the Estate as standard,

and probably also with the correct lowering springs.

I really hope Skoda bring out another fabia vrs in the future, that would be a monster imo

Cars are getting so much faster now arent they.

Looking back. A range topping mk1 polo had 60bhp (smallest 800cc model had 34bhp). Okay it would if been lighter.

But now look at em. I know the fabia vrs isnt a prime example of a hot hatch but given its size, 180bhp n dsg has brought things a long way hasnt it!

Same with everything though i guess. A superbike used to be 90-100bhp... Now theyre pushing on 200bhp

Transits used to be slow, nearly stopping on every hill, now theyre powering past cars left right n centre

I thought it was just us but it happens in other country's.  This poor girl is always uploading videos of her being bullied in her batman VRS.

Sorry don't know how to show the video....

This is one I was after.  Batman VRS again showing a BMW driver what they are all about.

I can't believe this f***ing idiot... And you know what's most irritating, even if she had some place to go in this horrible jam, he is so desperate to overtake most probably because he thinks he has a superior car and in his mind this gives him the right to just be in front of everybody else, but not necessarily faster.  Precisely the "I have money so I can screw the queues" attitude. Really ****es me off...

Haha! Is that an mk 1 or 2?

It's just an Infiniti, mate - calm the f**k down.

Its a quick little car, especially off the line if you can get the power down thanks to the supercharger... but i feel it lacks some grunt after that. I think the best way to describe it, is the power feels too forced... and by that I mean, if you drive something like a scooby you feel the engine rather than the turbo gives you some more of the power... where in the vrs it all feels forced (which it is of course lol).

Great little car and Im sure im gonna miss mine when it goes.

All the grunt in the world, Dyno Readouts, 0-60 times, Noise and possible go counts for nothing when the driver forgets to drop the gears,

spin up the Turbo and use that AWD capability to get up to 60mph and then slow down again.

Odd how many Car Drivers in Manuals have fast cars, and have no idea where the Torque Band is.

Grunt and booming big bore exhausts can be rather embarrassing below NSL's when they get it wrong the first time,

and then need to look like they are trying on the 2nd go.

DSG & Twincharger is a bit like driving a Dodgem, no real skills required if it is rolling. just be sure the brakes have good pads.

Maybe best not try standing start sprints (Traffic Light Grand Prix) with TC on and no good surface or tyres.

(because you can look like a Grand Prix)

Its all about the initial take off on a traffic light gp isnt it.

A bad start can leave a much faster car behind a slower one initially.

Hence why i never edge forward or rev at the lights. If in gonna go, i dont want to give away any hints in the car.

Dont mind on the bike. Sometimes rev just to tease, especially if its a particularly sporty car or boy racer or whatever. Makes no real difference anyway. Still gonna win by a country mile lol. Just funny sometimes

I've had four VAG cars in a row (two VWs and two Skodas) and they've all been terrible off the line (scrabbling about if you boot them, especially on damp / greasy surfaces), which is why I just casually roll off these days.

Just a FWD thing isnt it?

No it is not just a FWD thing, or RWD or even AWD.

Electronics and Traction control can stop wheel spin by cutting power to the engine, or nipping brakes or variations.

Rear Wheel Drive or AWD or FWD putting power down too quick and losing traction is just No Traction No Action.

Basic cars with good tyres can be good in wet, snow, ice, grease, oily / Diesel slick roads.

Light and quick from 0-30 or 0-40 with no dramas.

Just like 49cc Mopeds can be.

2 tonnes with 350 bhp plus BHP and wide treads are not always going to be the best at traffic lights Grand Prixs,

often they can be pretty hopeless actually.

Just like , Cruisers vs Sports Bike vs Traillie vs Scooter over 100 yards & then stop again.

Sorry George, i may be being thick here but i cant understand what you're trying to say haha.

You mean its just a power thing?

A 4wd would get off the line faster than a fwd though? More traction more action as you might say.

I dont see what you're getting at with the bikes. Any big bike would leave a moped for dead off the line lol. By the time youve got the clutch out and battling a rising front wheel, peds and cars are long gone. Unless its something super special. But I've yet to have that aha.

Have you never ridden Automatic Scooters.?

& AWD does not always mean quick off the line and on greasy roads the heavy car can have slipping front wheels and rears

and TC interfering not in a good way. But then there are always horses for courses,

but little AWD city cars like the Subaru Justy are no more. The Suzuki Swift 4x4 1.2 has nothing special official 0-60,

but these are surprising cars 0-40, 0-50

We are only talking 0-40 anyway are we not.

Yeah. I have.

I also had a race with my mate on one when i was 16. I had a push bike and he had a 50cc moped lol.

They arent quick off the line IMO. Should never beat a bigger bike.

Hmm i dno. AWD does give you more traction though doesnt it. Which is the problem with say, a FWD car with abit of poke. Just spins the wheels doesnt it.

Edit: infact, im pretty confident in saying i could get my 70hp fabia off the line quicker than a moped. I dont think thatd be a problem tbh.
