BMW drivers... I now understand the stigma!

Featured Replies

OK before I start, I am not bragging in this thread. It's just to highlight my observations since becoming a BMW owner.

All my previous cars have been Skoda's.

My lastest is an BMW E90 320d that I am enjoying very much.

Now we all know that BMW drivers have a negative stigma against them... as well as Audi and Merc but BMW seem to be the ones most highlighted and moaned about!

When I drove Skoda's I didn't really attract much attention to myself, I was given way to and apart from the odd 'VRS badge red mist' other road users left me alone.

Since getting a Bimmer, I've found that;

- Nobody lets you out at T-Junctions. Ever. I was sat at a busy T-Junction trying to turn right. I was sat there with my indicators on for nearly 5 minutes! It is now consistently longer than anytime I've been through there in a Skoda.

- People speed up and block you from merging in

- People pull out on me from T junctions or roundabouts (Even worse than when driving my Misses driving instructor car!) causing me to brake

I am trying really hard not to drive like a dcik because of the frustration, but I can totally see why some BMW drivers drive the way they do.........

Maybe it's just me???

  • Funny you say that. I wont go out of my way to let a fabia out, cos theres a chance they might go 20mph everywhere haha. A risk im not willing to take haha.

No it is not just you,

people have had the BMW Grill & Lights behaving badly for long enough now and are just treating all BMW's as they have been treated in the past.

Well unless they are White Convertibles with blondes, & probably female.

Doesnt bother me what car it is, I'll treat most the same. More likely to let a car in if its nice actually haha.

Just aslong as nobody tries to push in. A brand new range rover pulled across to try n push in on me yesterday. Probably thought he could bully a skoda to give way.

So i made a point of not letting him in. Left him in the middle of the road.

He wasnt pleased haha.

I can understand that, maybe its just the circle of road life.

BMW cuts driver up> that driver then vows never to let a BMW driver out or in again> another BMW driver doesn't get let out and then forces their way in cutting another driver up > etc etc

Well no. I wouldnt not let in another rangerover because of that instance.

Just dont like attempts at bullying from big cars, or any cars actually haha. So try not to let em get away with it when i can.

If he'd not started pushing in, i might of let him go.

Maybe you wouldn't, but others might. Some people can be stubborn!

Seriously, I've not noticed that BMW drivers are any worse any more, simply because every man and his dog owns one now, so simply by the normal distribution of sensible people vs the stupid ones means most of them are driven sensibly. Personally I'd lookout for thugs in stupidly powerful Golf R hot hatches.....

I nearly go into a full blown row with some old bloke in a Van because of a merge lane.

He kept speeding up to not let me in, I eventually got in front but at the next lights her decided to pull alongside and try and tell me I should have indicated to be let in..........???

I swiftly told him to look up the highway code to see the error of his ways. Merge lanes are like zips. Nobody needs to indicate as were all going in the same direction!

stever750,

Well they are few and far between, like Seat Leon Cupra 280's they are going off the road as we post,

failures left right and centre.

This made me chuckle :)

Vehicular Karma perhaps?

I have a thing, if a car is made by VAG then it stands more chance of me letting it out.

In a misplaced sense of tribalism, I'd probably let other Cupra 280 drivers out, even if it meant making an extra effort. Not the previous versions mind you, especially if the driver is wearing a beanie or a baseball cap, and never if it is lowered or has remotely blue tinted lights. I'd also let Golf R drivers out cos we're almost in the same club.

/\ oh well guess you wont be letting me out

I have beanies / snap backs and drive a lowered bmw

No blue lights tho

You should not let any 280 cupras out either, in return.

Or golf r's, cos theyre pretty much nearly in the same club ;)

Damn right! Get back down the food chain :)

TBH I couldn't give a toss what car is where, we're all trying to get somewhere, so give and take and the world gets on just fine.

Funny enough when I had my first BMW (a white 120d m-sport) I had the same experience as you - nobody would let me out of a junction, ever. Merging lanes was another interesting event whereby you would get everyone trying to shaft you off the road.

Interestingly since I've had the M135i things have got much better! I don't know if it's just because I have got used to it though. Might also be that the grey paint is abit more under the radar and that petrol-heads don't mind giving way so they can hear it accelerate off. :-)

Oh and in the words of Clarkson "all the c**ks are now in Audis"..... Lol

I dont think its the latter

Can never tell an m135 unless im right behind it haha

Yeah you're right who am I kidding?! Lol . The M-135i is definitely an understated kind of oerformance car.

One thing I have noticed in the M135i is the amount of people that tailgate it. Don't know what their game is. Great fun tho to blow 'em into the weeds when they get abit over excited lol

Brilliant fun i imagine.

Nout better than blasting off a tailgater by overtaking 4-5 or more cars at once.

Then once youve done it its boring again n you kinda want em to come back haha.
