Occasional loss of power steering mk5 ibiza

Featured Replies

Ok so my friend has a mk5 ibiza which is pratically same as a fabia underneath, he has occasional loss of power steering. He reckons its tempurature/moisture related as happens when its around 3 degrees or been raining, im not sure on his diagnosis.

Seat have suposidly scanned it and told him he needs a new pump fitting at about £1000 which he doesnt want to do straight away as its alot of money. Ive scanned it and got the following codes:

01288 - Terminal 30; Steering Assist: Signal too High

01290 - Reference Voltage Steering Assist: Short to Ground

So im going to look at the measuing blocks on mine and then compare it to his, but i think its either steering angle sensor or a wiring issue. Anyone got any other ideas or what i should check?

Cheers

isn't it a different platform to both the mk1 and mk2 Fabia? more like a mk5 Polo or an A1?

Ibizas are more like Polo's than Fabias.

Mk1 Fabia, Mk4 Ibiza, Polo 9N are all brothers.

Mk2 Fabia, Mk5 Ibiza Polo 6R are all brothers.

An Ibiza is just as different to a Polo as it is to a Fabia.

Cheers, posted it in mk2 section

It's the same damnable steering pump on all of 'em and, yes, it's failing. £1000 sounds ludicrous, an exchange unit is about £300 and two hours labour to fit.
