Bluespark tuning boxes, anything changed or still the same?

Featured Replies

Thinking of saving up for a tuning box as i've just read 4-5 different threads and everyone is so happy with them and it seems like the best thing to get power out of your car under warranty. The threads are 2-3 years old so i'm wondering if any problems have popped up with them since then or are they still as good and worth getting?

Thank you

  • It's only a transaction, a simple 'sorry I've got one from eBay cheaper' would suffice! It's not going to hurt my feelings lol I just don't like being messed about. Common courtesy and all that eh?

  • I have run 50,000 miles in CAVE with TMC producing a RR'd 199bhp, and I have run 35,000 miles in a CTHE doing the same tracks ect ect , and they are as quick as each other... believe me I wouldn't hav

tmc seems to offer more gains over bluespark, bluespark seems to give out more torque, bluespark is cheaper though so thats a gain

I have been running my Bluespark box for 6 months now, with absolutely no problems (ie no misfires, no Engine management lights).

Bluespark actually fitted the box themselves, &Edd, (the head honcho at Bluespark), said this device was a prototype, which monitored 3 inputs rather than the standard 2). The results are amazing. Much smoother torque, Pulls like a train & MPG figures have improved. Absolutely no negatives to report at all. I don't know whether this prototype box has now been incorporated into their standard range?

I found the after service at Bluespark to be brilliant, they have all the time in the world for you & nothing seems to be too much trouble.

Here is my Dyno map;_

Not much increase in BHP but torque curve is much smoother.

My engine is CTHE 2013

That DYNO curve was taken with the BLUESPARK box on standard setting (5) I am now running it on maximum setting, with additional improvement.

Having a new DYNO check soon - will post results

Sounds good, thinking of purchasing one in the future and trying it out, so far it looks good and it's a cheap mod for what the power it gives

I have a tmc box and a bluespark box. I only need one but I haven't decided which I like most. If you can hang on a little while I'm putting one up for sale so there may be a cheep buy there.

My feeling is the bluespark gives more shove mid range but the tmc has more top end power.

Edit. My bluespark box only has two inputs and not the 3 that derekcollier has fitted.

Bluespark dyno figures can be found in my project thread. 201bhp on setting 4.

Standard setting 5 what does this mean? Setting 5 is the same as a standard engine?

A guess

1 to 10 settings. 1 being the 'eco' setting. 5 being standard (box is delivered on setting 5) and max setting is 10.

Could be wrong tho lol

Edit. I am wrong lol

Hey! I'm no petrolhead. :notme:

The Bluespark box has a set of jumpers (1-5), & (slight correction to my original post), Bluespark suggested I try the jumper on position 3. I left on this setting for a while (the Dynochart in my original post is with the jumper set at position 3). For the last 2 months I have been running the car with jumper on position 5 (maximum) & noticed more pull & better MPG. I am arranging new Dyno test shortly to see whether the increase gains can be substantiated. Will post results. There is also a  dial adjuster (numbered 0 -9) which is currently set at 6. I have no idea what this adjustment is for, & I haven't altered it. I keep meaning to phone Bluespark about it.

I am now tempted to give the TMC OBD remap a try, which apparently remaps the ECU & the DSG box - which (they claim) improves shift times & removes torque limitation.

Don't know whether other Briskodians have tried this yet? £420 is the price. Worth it? Who knows?

Derek, I enquired about the tmc obd dsg flash but they just fobbed me off with the same info they stated on their website. Apparently they have a lot of enquiries so didn't pay much attention to my request for more in depth details on what engine/gearbox parameters it would actually change. I wasn't impressed and don't think I will be going down this route based on the fact they wouldnt tell me what changes would be made to a bloody expensive gearbox and control unit.

Thanks for that mate. I'm in no hurry. Think I'll wait to see if any positive feedback is posted before I consider splashing out £420.

Hey! I'm not happy that you're pushing out more BHP than me. I'll have to see if the maximum setting on the Bluespark has made any difference when I Dynotest again - might be asking for my money back if it hasn't!!

Some people say that the CTHE engine has more power than the CAVE engine however, if you were only getting 191 ish with the Bluespark box it wouldn't seem to suggest this. Be interested to see the new figures.

In terms of remapping the DSG then from what I've read it works well for a wet DSG but not so well on the dry DSG that the fabia's have. For example adding lunch control can do more harm than good. I'd certainly like to get rid of the kick down and up charges to give more control but I don't think much development has been done on this particular box. I might be wrong.

if anyone is in the northwest and is going for a dyno run with there bluespark box i will come with my tmc box and we can compare the two, youve got to take into account the figures above wether they are running a standard intake and the octane of the fuel etc, be interesting to get two car's one a cave and the other a CTHE and run them both on the same dyno as standard cars then with an intake on then with both different boxes and see what one preforms the best both on 99 ron fuel aswell

Indeed, it'll solve that old debate.

£30?! That's a steal, how old is the box? I'm looking at Bluespark ones on eBay and there's so many with loads of different prices

Is it one for your car you got or the one in the picture?

i know absolute bargain just need a new loom and map from tmc which cost's money,

What's that? And a map for what? Thought the box was plug and play?

If you order a TMC for a specific model it comes ready configured with the correct wiring loom & is indeed "plug n play" - 10 minute job to install.

If you source one from elsewhere eg Ex BMW, then it will require a new wiring loom & remapping.

Don't know how much TMC will charge for that, but by the time P&P (both ways is added) then it may not be a bargain after all!!

£30 is a bargain, did you check how much the loom + map would cost?

70 quid for loom and map so all in all i got a box for £100

Can't argue with that! Enjoy!

It's transforms the VRS, I'd use setting 7 for best results!

thomasaspin,

are you getting a new engine fitted before you put the tuning box on?

If so,

best give it a chance to see how it is with its new MAP and maybe even a new ECU before fitting a Tuning Box.
