Rear suspension corrosion :(

Featured Replies

Hi I was driving home from work tonight in my 1998 felicia and I noticed the rear suspension was making a strange noise. When I got home I had a look at the suspension and found that the top mount is totally corroded. Easy to replace??

I'm just doing a similar repair to my felicia.

It's not too bad to do (if you can weld!) but access is awkward.

I've machined up the parts to make welding easier. Best thing to do is strip out the interior panels (assuming it's a car here) and stick some pics up. I could then send you the parts needed.

Which side is it btw?

Ah yes, the dreaded rear suspension rot, it's normally much worse on the pickups, your one doesn't look too bad tbh.. Whip the shock absorber off and have a look in the best answer.

Its the cup the spring sits in that corroded. Will fix it i think its worth it its a lovely old car

As the can see in the picture the cup that the rubber mount for the spring sits in has nearly completely corroded. I could do with finding a new replacement. Does anyone know of any suppliers that sell them?? Or has anyone got a fix??

may have a fix for you need a dig in the back of my lock up will try to find time is it the off side or near side

Those cups are still available from dealers or TPS, last one I bought was about a fiver!

It's near side. I work for vw so I could try tps. But do please have a look to see if you have one

I took apart the rear suspension today. Yeah it definitely the spring cup. Have you had a look in the lookup yet rv125?

hi its on mondays to do list

Mission accomplished found the part you need. Have a good poke around as you already have the shock absorber off it's not unusual to find some corrosion on the car body If that is the case you may need the big hunk of metal in blue tell me what you need and we'll sort something out I'm not greedy pie and a pint sounds good for everything you see

Thanks for having a look. She's a solid old car so won't be needing the blue bit. Just need the spring cup really

I have exactly the same problem on my Fun, rattle started after going over a pothole yesterday, found the top of the nearside rear shock absorber flapping in the breeze. Does anyone know if there's a repair panel available, if so any idea on part number?

Thanks.
