Air con automatically switches on

Featured Replies

I find it quite irritating that the aircon is activated when the screen icon is selected on the heater control. On these frozen mornings when you want hot air blasting on the windscreen you find the aircon blasting cold air. I thought that below +4 degrees the aircon does not activate but this morning I am sure the engine speed increased when I turned the aircon to OFF.

AC helps to draw moisture out of the air so will actually demist faster with it on.

Don't be in the mind set that AC is only useful for cooling down the car.

Leave it on permanently

I don't have mine on permanently, but if it's damp and I need to demist the screen, the aircon goes on until the job is done, then it goes off.  It definitely helps for the reasons above.

Never turn it off. In summer it cools, in winter it dehumidifies and keeping it running keeps it lubricated and stops deposits building up.

The reason it turns on when you want to demist is the air first goes through the AC to dry it, then through the heater elements so you're blowing hot dry air at the screen.

Don`t forget to replace the pollen filter before the start of every winter either..Otherwise the mist takes ages to disperse

Don't mention the dirty socks - rotten eggs smell.
