Can't get my grille off?

Featured Replies

So i've read a few threads and they're old so the pics are unavailable and the steps are harder to follow without pics. I'm trying to remove my monte grille as we speak and i've undone the top two torx screws and the two plastic ones and now i can't seem to get these "splitted plastic clips" on each side to come off? I've tried pulling them, pushing them in and pulling the grille but it doesn't even seem to come loose..? I'm stuck and need some help if someone can help? I've looked through threads already and i'm more of a visual learner so steps are harder to follow..

Thanks

I used brute force and ignorance.....

I tried some force but it just won't come off and i don't want to break it

I used a smallish socket to push them out. You need one small enough to compress the "splitted clips" a little, as they expand once they are pushed through a hole to stop them coming out so easily.

Can i ask why you are removing the grill and what you are doing when removed.

If you want to put Carbon Look Wrap on the Top Part with the Skoda badge on,

that is fixed to the Bonnet and easily done.

6 or 7 mm socket does the trick. Push the socket into the holes and twist. The trim will pop off no probs.

Thanks OzFabia and George i'm cutting the plastic bits that are inbetween the grille (on the passenger side) to help get more air going in the filter, saw it done by Ant-Vrs on his build thread so i thought i'd try it. What are these bits for anyway? Why are they covering the top half of the grille?

And yeah i might be doing the upper part of the grille that the badge is attached to in carbon fibre in a week or two

I'm thinking that they just block the air going into the intercooler and air filter hose so why are they there in the first place? Plus grille looks 10x better without them, tempted to cut the other side now lol

put a picture on ang?

Very happy with it, grille looks so much better and guessing more air will reach the engine now

Slight backplate to restrict air flow

Oooh. Think i might of seen that actually.

Is it part of the grille moulding? Does it require a Dremel or something to cut it off, or is it just screwed on?

Im not gonna do it. The HTP has all the air she could ever need. She sips it. Probably be happy breathing through a straw tbh.

The MK1 has a different setup which limits air, I just increased air into pipe :)

We arent talking big gains here are we.

Probably about as much as putting the rear seats down.

Make of that what you will.:: haha

Pretty much, emptying the glovebox will make more difference than that ;)

Haha no gains whatsoever and wasn't expecting any but it does look miles better imo. Just cut them out with a stanley knife, didn't have to remove the grille in the end.
