If you are using a Garage / Independent to fit replacement (latest) Oil Spray Jets (Squirters)

see if they can get them from TPS

http://thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk

Did you enquire at a VW/Skoda/Audi/Seat Parts Department Sales Desk?

That was the company I was trying to think of! :) Thanks.

I haven't enquired VW directly set, I was going to contact a motor factor first to see if they have it. Am i right in thinking that this part originated from the Sirocco CAVD engines?

After taking my car back to VW after only 500 miles, they have acknowledged it is using oil.

This is the note left on the "My Vehicle Live" page which they sent me via a text:

"check oil level after 1000km, oil level on minimum, engine burning more than the .50 liters per 1000km, check tpis found one reqires intake pipe replaced and oil injectors replaced and software up date , recommend this tpi carried out as first point 3.80 hours".

The quote for the work is £638!!! Just need to wait for the warranty company to approve.

Does anyone know what the TPIS or TPI is?

So first they are going to do the Breather Update and Software Update, before fitting new 'Oil Spray Jets',

are the not, or are the doing the lot?

Is VW UK paying for this, or is it under an Extended Warranty?

TPI = 'Technical Product Information'.

Good stuff on the 'Quote'.

It is interesting to know how VW are costing it,

a Skoda Twincharger owner is waiting to get the go ahead to have his engine done.

Maybe we will get a comparison on what the cost will be when Skoda (warranty) are having to pay.

It looks like they are doing it all in one hit. Waiting for approval from warranty company before go ahead.

However i got a courtesy car at the moment so not worried as long as im kept in the loop. Driving a 65 plate VW Up! At the moment.

It is VERY basic. No central locking or air con; You have to lock each door manually.

ive had the oil jets replaced on my car about 4000kms ago hasnt used a drop since, breather mod wasnt done due to my air intake so it seems to me to be a pretty good fix finally!!!

Good to hear, is that with a CAVE or CTHE engine?

Just got an update, the warranty company will cover the oil injectors once the assessment has been finished but they won't cover the intake or software update so it looks like I will have to pay for some of it.

Should I try claiming good will from VW? In my opinion the thing they do to the intake pipe isn't a fix it's a modification so should I have to take the brunt for that?

If it wasn't for VW's £100ph labor rates I wouldn't be too worried.

Who is the Warranty Company.   Is it the Volkswagen Group.?

Pay for nothing.     VW should have replaced the Upgraded Breather when the car was under 3 Years old if using Oil. & done a Software Update.

So if the New Oil Spray Jets and Software Update but no new Breather Pipes resolves the issue, then job done.

But the Warranty company (VW) are wasting money doing only part of the job.

Whoever is paying for the Warranty is paying to 'Fix the Faults',  the Fault is 'High Oil Consumption'  which can and usually leads to premature engine failure.

Some person in some Technical Department is trying to save £40 but gambling on it costing £4,000 if the Oil Spray Jets alone does not reduce the High Oil Consumption and one spark plug fouling.

Warranty Wise as i got a 3 year warranty with the car on purchase. They say they will be covering the oil jets but not the pipes or software updates.

The trouble is i dont think the previous owner raised the issue so im not sure where i stand. Im gonna wait until they get back to me and then see what they said about the pipe and updates.

If it wasnt for VWs £100 labor rates i wouldnt worry so much. The pipe is probably £45 and the updates is probably £50-60 so im guessing it would be 2 hours plus parts so nearly £300 which i wont be allowing.

The Software Update needs doing when the Oil Spray Jets get done,

so just leave them to get on with it.

Whoever is doing the work is Guaranteeing it, and you have the 3 year Warranty, so if they mess up or do not correct the fault, then you still get sorted out in the long run.

Surely they are qualified and experienced and know what requires doing.

£100 an hour including VAT.

If it takes under 3 hours, then that is what it has to be,

Warranty Wise must pay higher than that with many other more prestige brands than VW.

They will deferentially pay for the labor on the jets its just the pipe and software updates they won't touch. Hopefully see what they come back with today.

You can just go and buy the Pipes (Breathers) and put them on , 10 minute job.

There were the first Upgrade, then the 2nd which Ozfabia got fitted in Australia.

(Then he had the Oil Spray Jet Upgrade.)

As to the Oil Spray Jets,

The Trained Technician will be following the VW Procedure to replace them.

& if £100 an hour is being charged they would need to be Trained & Qualified.

& since the Oil Spray Jets are being done to 'Fix' the High Oil Consumption, then updating the Software is part of the job,

it is really as simple as that.

Good news, Warranty Wise have approved ALL the work.

They are replacing:

1.00 X VENTHOSE 03C103474AD 57.05

4.00 X JET 03C103157A 50.68

1.00 X SEALANT D176600A1 16.03

20.00 X SCREW N90500605 10.20

1.00 X VENTHOSE 03C103558AA 26.94

And in total, the parts is £249.73 plus £273.60 (£72 per Hour, 3.8 Hours) labor so £523.33. The software update wasn't mentioned but it isn't the end of the world as I have saved myself £523.33 and the warranty has paid for itself. Fingers crossed this works  :D

  • 1 year later...

Having read through a lot of this I decided to get the "squirters" changed on my car. It's a 2011 CAVE car which I bought second hand. It was going from full to the bottom marker on the dipstick after between 1200 and 2500km.

It wasn't too much hassle to keep topping ti up but I decided to get the work done anyway. It cost around €900 which included a service. The garage looked up what was needed and did the breather pipes too.

That was six months ago. I was disappointed at first as I had to top up two weeks later (down by a quarter). However, since then it hasn't used any oil at all. The economy is also slightly better.

I do about 500-700km a week.

I just thought it would help to report back and to thank those who posted before.
