Which Battery?

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Tried a search but couldn't find much in the way of what I'm wanting to know.

I need a new battery for my Fabia 1.9 tdi (pd 100) when I looked on euro car parts they seem to range from 70ah to 74ah, is there much difference in these? Then there's gel batteries, are these really worth the extra money?

The car doesn't get used much but I don't want to just chuck the cheapest battery on because it's the cheapest.

Usual answer tends to be go for a Bosch or Varta - same casing, with a  3, 4, or 5 year warranty depending on how long you expect to keep the car, the longer the warranty, the better the performance - just check the spec for that info.  Check on both websites for correct models. I've noticed that Seat Ibiza tends to get Exide, they used to be seen as a "good" battery, but that was years ago!

Halfords used to do good deals on Bosch, but now I see they are pushing Yuasa, I have a liking for Bosch S5 from Costco, though ECP seem okay for Bosch.

So far I've never considered gel mat batteries - mainly on cost for same/better performance.
