Nexus 7 Install CanBus Query

Hey guys!

This forum is a wealth of information, Its helped me answer a few queries I've had regards my Mk2 Fabia which I've nearly owned for a year now so Thanks!.

I'm currently in the process of designing and putting together a Nexus 7 setup to install into my Fabia but I wondering if I able to monitor the can bus for information.

For example, some of the information I wish to monitor is:

• Lights On\Off - to dim the Nexus screen when the lights get turned on
• Reverse gear selected - Switch to rear view camera and turn down the music maybe...
• Car Moving - Disable certain features on the nexus while driving etc...
• Maybe more that I just haven't thought of!

I've got a ELM327 interface which plugs in to the diagnostic port and I am able to retrieve information via the Hyper Terminal in hex (meaning I will be able to decode the information later).

I've looked around on similar projects where people have monitored the can bus for messages but I can't seem to see any messages unless they are requested, any ideas? 

Some places have also suggested connecting the can bus connection (somewhere I read it could be Lin bus?) on the back of the radio (Swing unit) but I've found no information regarding what protocol this would be or if I can monitor it via the ELM327 dongle

Hope someone can shed some light on this and point me in the right direction
