First Service

Featured Replies

Just approaching the 1 year point on my Rapid so I'm all geared up for getting her through her first service but Maxi Dot seems to think I have over a year to go until it needs servicing. Now I assume this is because it has been set to variable servicing but surely it needs servicing before the 2 year point??

Variable servicing is set up for 30000km, unless you thrash it and the interval comes down AFAIK. Vehicles with option QI6 are set up for variable and filled with extra long life oil.  You can find the option codes on the inside cover of your handbook or in the boot near the spare wheel well.

When you get the service you can choose to remain on variable or swap to fixed intervals.

Are you on the 3 years free servicing? If so it'll be the fixed regime at 10k or 12 months between each service which ever comes 1st. Unless you're doing high miles and most of them on a motorway IMO you're better off on the fixed regime. They come from the factory on variable as standard, but if it's like my Octy it can be changed over to fixed, or alternatively you can leave it as is, but still have it done on the fixed plan- it makes no difference to what oil is used which ever you pick.

Although VW do publish 2 diffent oil specs - 502.00 (normal) and 504.00 (for longlife and flexi service)

Even if the car is set to variable servicing, I would say a first service at 12 months is a good idea (it is what I did earlier this month). Especially on the turbo engines. Fresh, clean oil is essential to keep the turbo in peak condition for the long term. The first service if done at the 12month/10k point is basically just an oil change and check over of the car and the fluid levels. Should cost £140 at a main dealer if you want long life oil (as per variable service schedule), £130 with the cheaper 10k spec oil.

Even though I serviced early, I have kept the car on the variable service schedule and will review after another year whether to stick with annual/10k servicing or follow the variable regimine.

Depending on how I drive and how many miles I lay down over the coming months, I may also have an interim oil change done in my next 5,000 miles.

Exactly my plan. She will be going in for a service in Feb which will be 12 months and 11000 miles...

Good call.

Get it done at 10K and ask them to change it to fixed [emoji106]

Mine has 504 oil in it but it's on normal 10k or 12mths servicing.

The litre of spare oil in my boot is 504 Castrol edge professional oil

So am I supposed to go on a service every year or when the car tells me to?

We need some context. How long have you had the car, how many miles have you done, what service regimine is it currently set to. Do you mostly do motorway miles or local roads?

I'm currently on the variable service and when I last looked a visit to the dealer was penned in around April time.

Oddly I find this is something that can't be viewed on the Maxi dot when you are driving, and is something I keep forgetting to look at either before entering or leaving the car when the engine is off.

You can do what you want. Mine is on variable servcing currently so I'm going to get them to change it to 10k/12 month intervals. I only do around 6-8k max a year and really want my car looked at each year.

If you have variable servicing I believe they put long life oil in and it gets changed at something like 18k.(unsure) There is a thread on it somewhere without me going indepth.

Correct. However, you can still have the long life oil on the 10k/12mth service, you just have to pay a bit extra for it. It's worth the extra tenner for it though.

Ah yes Chris I do this with my Mazda, I stick a longer life oil in but it only in there for around 4k. Got another 5litres to go in for springtime, bet it's only covered around 2k since the last change this time, but will be getting on for 12 months.

Mine is 12mths old now and 'ive done 7000k. Just had mine serviced £105. I was told by the service manager that the variable service was 20k or 24mths and £190, so for the difference I would rather have it serviced every 12mths . He also told me that they put longlife oil in everything as standard. My1ltr spare top up in my boot is 504 to.

Had mine done at lightcliffe in Warrington and the service I received was second to no. No quibble, would recommend to anyone.

Finally got round to booking my first service. £93 and they are setting it to one click opens all doors on VCDS for free. Pretty happy with that

That's a very good price.

Yeah....No haggling no discounts. Was very surprised.

It is Horton's in Lincoln. Good for after service but not so much for new car sales very unwilling to do any deal on price and PX prices are daylight robbery. I had to go elsewhere for my Rapid.

Rather than start another thread, I've got my 1st service notification for the Toledo come through via email. They quote £179  :peek: so what are Rapid owners paying for a 1st service on their 1.2 TSi petrol?

If the previous Citigo 1st service is anything to go by, it's just an oil change I believe and basically a quick check over the rest of the stuff :notme:

Can Skoda do this stuff (don't see why not) but what about any updates?

Yes skoda can do your service as they do make the Toledo in the same factory as the rapid

My first service on the Spaceback 1.2TSI (just an oil filter & oil change with long life oil) was £140 from a Skoda main dealer. My local Skoda dealer even advertises that it can service Seat models (as well as VW and Audi).
