Mk 2 Fabia Swing Radio Wiring-Help

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 62 Plate Fabia Greenline that I am trying to fit a Single Din Sony DAB radio in place of the Double Din Swing.

I have all of the bits I need but can't seem to get it to work.

Can anyone tell me how the vehicle loom is wired.

I have found several threads within these forums but none of them seem to match the wiring in my car.

Looking at the 8 pin plug that contains the earth and power cables (the black one) from the vehicle loom side i have:

Top Left Red                     Top Right Brown with Yellow stripe

2nd Left 2 x red cables      2nd Right Empty

3rd Left Empty                   3rd Right Orange with White dots

4th Left Empty                   4th Right Orange

If anyone can help / tell me what the cables are / send a link to a wiring diagram I would be very grateful !

Thanks in advance...

At a guess I would say top left is antitheft, 2nd top left is power. Top right is ground, Bottom right two are canbus.

There should be a sticker on the swing headunit to tell you the pinout that looks something like this:

Thanks for the reply.

I have managed to find this image on multi sites,

Can you tell me what the Canbus cables do?

basically when I connect the stereo in various configurations it is either permanently on on permanently off.

Where should I connect the Switched Power and the Lighting Power?

On the vehicle wiring the +UB has 2 cables going into it, could this be both the permanent and switched feeds?

All help appreciated...

Also this has demonstrated that I have no wiring diagrams at all for the vehicle, does anyone know where I can get them from in case I should ever get simple lighting faults etc

There are no switched power or lighting connection to the stock headunit. Instead, it receives commands over canbus to tell it when to turn on/off and if the lights are on.

You have a couple of choices, you can either:

- Run a new switched power from the fusebox, lighting might be a more interesting one to find a feed for

- Buy a canbus adapter that will provide you with a switched power and lighting wire

The latter will be the simplest as it doesn't need any modification to the car's wiring but it will cost more. Something like this would probably do the job: http://caraudiosecurity.com/skoda-can-bus-adaptor-8111

You might want to ask around to see if there is a recommended one for you car as I've not used one before.

The wiring diagrams can be accessed directly from Skoda/VW for a small fee, I can't remember the website off the top of my head though.

I had the same trouble on our Roomster, and am expecting it on the Fabia that has replaced it.

For the Roomster I found there's a fuse that goes live when the ignition is switched on, and stays live when switched off until you take the key out. Its know as the S contact and is used in VW group vehicles for this very purpose. The swing gets this signal over CAN (as described above) so the wire doesn't run to the radio. I extended it on the Roomster and used that, but it can only supply a small current. For my Kenwood radio that was fine but some radios may need more power down the ignition switched supply.

+UB will be the battery feed.

Thanks for all of the replies, all very much appreciated!

After reading through my Sony manual I discovered that the radio has an auto power down feature.

So I have wired both the permanent and switched into the +UB and now just have to remember to turn it off.....

Thanks for the info about the S contact, thats good to know in case i wish to upgrade the radio in the future.

Thank you all again!
