vrs cat back exhaust

Featured Replies

Evening all, I've just joined and this is my first post. There is probably several threads on this already but: I got a 2003 Octavia vrs a couple days ago, the exhaust was an advisory on the mot as hanger has come adrift on centre section. It started blowing today and was wondering if you knew how much one would be? Would prob stay standard depending on price

Have the same problem, and had it on my 2 litre Mk1 also. Cost £20 at my local in Peterborough on the 2 litre, they just put a clamp around it, Just been to a powerflow garage, they want £40 to weld in a new section where its broke, which isn't a bad deal. Otherwise will be about 325 for a custom 2.5" catback with an oval tale pipe, close as they do to standard. That gives you the option of more noise or you can go back later and get a reonnator box welded in, which is what I'm thinking on the vRS. Then if you're looking at stage 2 they can consider a 2.5" downpipe on the existing (400cel) cat for roughly £120, or more for a 200cel if you want to play the MOT lottery.

Otherwise the cheapest new catback I've seen is 370 for a piper. Cheaper if you can find secondhand but that's more luck than anything else. Also bare in mind the exhaust isn't going anywhere without the centre mount, will just knock a bit.

Gives you a ball park for OEM

Getting a repair on the damaged section as mentioned above makes good sense if the rest of it is in decent nick. Think I'd be looking for a repair on the section unless I

could afford to splurge on a turbo back. There's not much gain from an upgrade cat back without a downpipe and cat upgrade. There is some but not as much as there could be.

Thanks. Had I looked at and its the flexi pipe between turbo and cat that's blowing, centre section is also rotten. Been quoted £380 just for the downpipe and cat

Was that OEM pipe and cat? It's not too much more for a sports cat (200 cell) which should be fine for MOT and could be worth going that route if you're looking to upgrade in the future. Will need reducing to go into your standard centre from 2.5 down to 2.25 though. As it's also centre section if you're upgrading that's full system for aftermarket. If you're keeping it standard (nothing wrong with that by the way) then see if centre section is repairable and get that done with the new cat and pipe. If not and you need full system may as well go the upgrade route. You can probably find a fabricator who can turn out a decent quality one for less than militek/jetex etc. Might be worth Google for local makers, ring around for rough prices in case of worst scenario.

Cheers mate, I was thinking about a remap in the future. That was a price from kwikfit, as I was just looking for prices. I been looking on eBay and they all state for 150 bhp and not 180 vrs. I don't know anything about them as this is my first Skoda. Any info hints and tips would be greatly appreciated

Ah yeah the old ebay trick 1.8t AUQ but not for VRS? Apparently it's ********, golf 4, A3 KO3s turbo same as far as I've read on here so cat will fit. Tailpipe may need shortening because of length past wheels. But there's lots more choice of cheaper sports cats on ebay when you open up the search that way. Not taken the gamble myself but I'm sure there's many here who can confirm parity. Could combine that with OEM centre? Bare in mind though standard exhaust is fine for a stage 1 map. You'll only need sports cat when pushing for stage 2+. Centre and rear are nice upgrades but the pipe and cat is where the real gains are. I'm still learning myself, I've had mine since summer.

I read on here somewhere that the 150 bhp will fit the 180 bhp. Just wanted to make sure this was the case before I ordered one the centre is beyond repair, its been welded before. I been quoted £329 +vat to have a cat back system made, but I still need to get the cat done first. I would just like to free up a bit more power and sound the easy way before I map. Just need to know what pipes will fit as there are a **** load on eBay but hardly any stating rs

Mine is an estate by the way

Ah ok, in which case I would probably confirm a sports cat fit for one of the eBay ones (someone here, I tried sellers and they said no, sorry, but that just doesn't make sense) get one of those and marry that to a fabricated cat back, probably your most cost effective way to do it, especially if you find a fabricator under the radar. Your then probably talking a reasonable price for a full system. Will probably be roughly the same perhaps even cheaper than full standard system. Definitely worth a look. What are the eBay cats again, 240? Plus 330 for your cat back, pretty tidy that.

They are going for £220 on eBay. What about de cat pipe? Apart from fail mot what are the other gains or losses?

There will be a performance gain over sports cat but for me personally that doesn't outweigh the mot hassle and other issues. Decats are even cheaper but even so. By the way I saw one of the eBay sports cats listed for Octavia, but still said not VRS lol, but its got to be right as listing still says AUQ engine.

Demon Tweeks do exhausts to fit, they also do finance

Would be a good option, saves finding a lump sum. Could just get them to do it right through. Those sports cats do look like good value though.

That's what I thought, less than half the price of a milltek. Means I should have a bit of spare cash to think about a remap too

Do you know anyone that may want a Piper cat back non res stainless system with twin 3" round tail pipe for mk1 Octavia vrs? Only a few weeks old, its just too loud for me

Did you get one of those sports cats off the bay by the way?

  • Author

Yes mate, welds are nice, looks good quality, it fit OK and was delivered quick. I got the piper system on it but I'm 33 have 3 kids (youngest being 9 months) and just think it's a bit too load

I get ya, those cats do look good, did you put it straight on to the piper or run it with the standard system at all? I'm wondering how much modification will be required to get one fitted to the standard system. Think they go down to 2.25 in increments is that right?

By the way it would be worth posting it up in the parts section.
