Featured Replies

Anyone got one of these yet? I expect to take delivery of mine in November and wondered if anyone has any experience with the L&K spec 2.0 TDi estate DSG yet?

Yes i took delivery of mine last month. Very nice and very pleased with it. Not sure about light assist. Turned off the wecome lights via maxidot. Everytime I just wanted to fetch something out of the car at night it would light up like a christmas tree. You don't always want want to draw attention to yourself when only wearing your pyjarmas. And the coming homes lights I turned down to 20 seconds from the default 80 seconds. I found that I had to keep checking that they had actually turned off after going in the house. The tunnel lighting is also a bit annoying, it would turn on the lights just passing through an area of shaded trees and then take ages to go off again even in sunlight. The electric adjust seats and mirrors are nice and you can set them to adjust to different key remotes if you like. You can also set the passenger mirror to adjust down when reversing so that you can see the kerb.

It's a shame that they haven't included a Laurin and klement badge on the back to show that you have bought the top of the range model like on the old octy, but it does have some on the sills and can be seen when the doors are open. Other wise it really just looks like a spec'd up elegance.

Sweet!

I'm after one of these babies in April when my Mk.1 Elegance goes back (company car).

I won't be having the DSG though as it pushes my allowance beyond breaking point, it's a shame it doesnt have xenons like the old'un but I'm having them regardless :D

Why not get an L&K badge for the boot? but only if it doesnt look :pants:

The little chrome strip on the tailgate above the number plate was a nice little clue about the model too.

Did the old one have a badge on the boot? I know it had them near the side repeaters but not the boot AFAIK

What about getting an elegance with DSG. That might fit your budget.

You can add the steering wheel audio controls, maxidot, small leather pack and light assist as options for

Was thinking that too, not sure if such a badge is made, quite fancy one in the standard skoda font, move Octavia to the left and put L&K on the right, sure we could source an L and a K but not sure about &. To be honest I don't like the wing badges I have seen as they look a little plasticy and "stuck" on.

Did you make the light assist adjustments yourself (easy?) or get the dealer to do it? I am not concerned it doesn't have the L&K badging - could be an advantage! How do you find the leather seats - comfortable, smart? Mine is going to be Sahara metallic with black leather which I hope looks good because I ordered without seeing one "in the flesh" and until I get back to the UK in November I have no chance of seeing one.

I'm not too bothered about not having the DSG box to be honest. most of my mileage is motorways so it spends most of it's time in 6th. Xenons are a higher priority than DSG.

And my company is highly likely to stuff up my options so if I go for an L&K they cant screw it up! :D

Don't forget the Xenon's are an option on the L&K now! :(

You adjust the welcome/coming home lights delays through the maxidot menu. Straightforward if you spec maxidot. Otherwise you need the dealer to do it for you.

I thought Maxidot was standard with the L&K spec?

So, is it easy with maxidot!!

Yes - The manual shows you how to do it. I've turned off the 'Coming Home' on mine, and just have the 'leaving home' enabled. I do like the fact that you can walk up to it in the dark, press the button, and all the lights come on.

As said easy to adjust light assist via maxidot. As for the leather seats, their nice but not as nice as in the new golf. It took a bit of time to get the adjustment right but I now find them very comfortable and of course once you get that perfect position you can store it in the memory. The seat heaters are going to be great now that winter is coming. Twas a bit chilly the other night so cranked them up a bit, very cosy.

I've seen the sahara and it was one of my short listed colours but I plumped for silver. I sure you will be very pleased with it.

I looked at the Golf when I was in UK but dealer wasn't too helpful and couldn't get the 2.0 Tdi unless it was the GT model - which I didn't want. Overall having tried both I just liked the Skoda more (and 10 years ago I never thought I would say that!), seemed to be finished off better, suspension seemed more comfortable and, of course, the Skoda is bigger.

I didn't like the interior of the new golf, I though it was a big step backward from the last models interior, and the new octy is vastly superior. However I did love the leather seats in the 2.0 GT Tdi model I sat in and its a shame they didn't carry them over into the octavia.

Didn't try the leather seats in the Golf. However, before leaving for the USA in 1992 I had 3 Golfs in a row and I remember the seats were always excellent.

The Skoda seats are bound to be better than the average USA car seats anyway!!

Am now confused. We intend to trade in our Mk 1 Octavia Elegance TDi estate for the latest version around the turn of the year (when in my experience the dealers are hungriest for sales and when we should have the cash in hand).

We're after the 2.0 TDi (140 bhp) with DSG, to go with our Smart (techies will know why). I personally would prefer leather to cloth for the seats, as the current fabric seems to set up an unnaturally close relationship with my chinos - moving about on the seat is almost literally a pain in the a$$.

But is it better to start off with an L&K (limited upgrade options) or spec up an Elegance? Not worried about street cred, just the money. And can one get all the goodies one wants into an L&K, or is the choice wider with an Elegance? For example, maxidot and clever steering wheel? Incidentally, we're planning to keep it for at least 10 years, so depreciation doesn't enter into it - just value for money on the sticker price.

Also, I have the feeling that we might get a better deal on an L&K if the dealers have to shift a quota each year. Narramean?

Useful to have some feedback from the Briskodians.

Yours, John

I think you'll find that you can have the same options on the L & K as on the elegance. Of course the options list appears longer on the elegance because the L & K has many of them as standard. The L & K also comes with electric memory drivers seat and memory mirrors and these can't be added to the elegance.

I couldn't bring myself to pay an extra

There are some other differences between the L&K and Elegance, such as Maxidot etc.

However, the L&K is not the bargain that it was when I got my 2003 L&K Estate - around

Do the L&K's seats change with the "key"?

I'm led to believe they do!

We will almost certainly go for another L&K & add the sports pack as I think the std wheels arent the prettiest.

We still have 2 questions to answer, is the DSG box worth the extra, as it reduces mpg & makes the car 40 kilos heavier. (If you are keeping the car for 10 years I def wouldnt get it, I guess it will cost a fortune to fix if it or the clutches go)

Secondly Im not impressed with the mpg figures of the newer Engine, I guess once people have sorted out the re mapping that will be less of a problem as it wont be so "emition critical"
