Another attempt to nick my Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

My God that is terrible mate! It's a sad day when you have to do all this stuff for a car. Whatever you do don't let the gits grind you down.

you need to get staybright double glazing. i used to work for them ages ago and they are almost imposible to get through. plus i would go with the ideas of a small suttle camera that will give u a idea if people are watching your house. i also had a clifford concept 600 alarm fitted to my car and if anybody came close it squarked. (and i dont care what anybody says about clifford alarms. mine only went off two times, both times there was a attempted break in) but a move to a better area maybe a good idea? if u can afford it.

i wouldnt even waste your time with the police they were useless when my car was broken in to twice and attempted twice.

sorry to hear about it as i know they love for the car quickly goes if its a target. sounds life ch*vs who want a easy show piece to play with for the night

A real tech head mate of mine had a similar problem, he set up a PIR that actually triggered a camera. It took a picture of them when they attempted to go at the window. It got a great shot but the police reckon they couldn't prove what they were doing at the window. Another friend of mine actually had a paving stone thrown through his patio door in broad daylight while him and his family were having dinner. They actually asked him for the keys and drove off with his Astra convertible. This was only last summer. It was a company car so he just let them have it - can't blame him. Forget protecting the car, you've got to protect your house. If they thought the car was easily nickable they wouldn't be breaking in for the keys, so the car must be ok. Deterring them from breaking into your house is the answer. House alarm and a locking cabinet for your keys will make the whole process too long for them, but it's hard to be logical about it when all you want to do is stove their heads in.

No car is worth that much worry, Paddy, particularly where your family is concerned. Period.

PS: I have a lot of fun with my Jabba'd 4X4 - complete with 1.4 16V badge on the back - and am secure in the knowledge that nobody is likely to steal it. :)

Paddy,

Sorry to hear your having trouble again.

Personally,

I'd be looking at a pole in the drive, Put the pole tight behind the car when its parked in.

Good Chain for steering wheel.

These are simple but they take time to get through, maybe don't leave all the keys together.

Sensor lights front, side and back (they don't have to be set high to annoy your neighbours, or that bright eg 150W & set looking stright down).

Good strong side gate and locks

By the sounds of it your back window is an easy target (probably needs replacing. My sister has a white PVC window which she took out of her house due to an extension. You could have a look at it if you want to see if its any better its 7ft 9.5" by 4ft 1" ).

Do you have a patio door ? Theres an excellent bar you can get.

You'd probably also need to look at house door locks, these are really easy to get through.

I'm not sure about telling your home insurer, increased risk might increase premium. It may be worth talking to the Copper, if you get the right one. There was a very good programe on one of the Sky channels, beat the burglar, gives a very good insight into what the burgular looks for. Someone mentioned high bushes, bad idea as it gives the burgular cover (although I like the prickly idea).

Not sure about debadging etc, in the long run maybe but it could well be the same fellas and sure they know you have it. I'd put money on it that the cops know exactly you these w**kers are but haven't got anything on them (see on Vage there was a Golf Gti stolen from Rathfarnam).

Is that Phonewatch system any good as a deterent ? Its linked so cops are alerted ?

Big problem is all these cost money and ultimately is it worth it, its making me think about going for the new one. Although if we live like that then we'd buy nothing.

I'd be interested to hear more about the GPS, cost etc (PM me if you want).

I take it you have tried such devices as steering locks? there is one on the market that emits a 120dB siren if disturbed which is a really good deterrent.

But to ultimately eliminate the problem the only thing you can do is move away, a drastic and sometimes impossible thing to do at short notice.

But if it has to be done to safeguard yourself and the family (sod the car, it can be replaced, people can't) then so be it, who knows how a burglar will react if disturbed mid job?

Good luck and I hope it all turns out well for you

Mindless hoodie wearing ch*v scum barstewards, the scum of the earth.....

Sorry to hear about the hastle. The mother in law's windows had slips on the outside unlike more modern PVC windows and was worried about someone lifting out a DG unit to get in. She got a special tape added to the edges of her pvc DG units. Once the window is re-installed it cannot be removed without breaking it. It's messy even after the window is broken. It cost about

Thing about steering locks is.... where are the keys to them kept... with the car keys... so they are still going the break into the house to find these.

A pole on front drive with a combination padlock (very good quality one that will fit pole very tight so as no croppers will go through it). Padlock needs to be nice and visible that it is combination then they will realise there is no point in going in house as there are no possible keys for it.

Keys locked away in key cab imo is a bad idea... if they break into house and cant find keys then they may smash up your house in anger.

If not a pole a wheel clamp... also combination padlock lockable for the same reason as above... anything that is lockable with keys means there are keys in the house... if they are prepared to break in to find car keys they will look for the rest as well.

I think the GPS stickers should go on the car.... cummon lets be honest anyone profesional car theif is going to be stealing octy.. they will after BM or merc if they have that knowledge.

Hope you get it sorted... but basically u want to make it ovious they can't have the car... but also fact there is no point breaking into house. Few more lights up.... how about getting the alarm company to rig up some very high intensity 1000w floods at front and rear to come on if house alarm sounds???

I read about a system recently that uses bluetooth. If your car loses its connection with the phone it alerts you. Thing is chances are the car theif is off with your motor at that stage

Work in progress

Thanks - my window is much bigger (13ft across with a door in the middle) - I have a few companies coming out to see what they can do.

Is that Phonewatch system any good as a deterent ? Its linked so cops are alerted ?

I have a similar monitored alarm - the problem is the cops won't resond unless it is verified that there is a breakin (either in person or by the alarm reporting mutliple seperate sensors triggered)

I'd be interested to hear more about the GPS' date=' cost etc (PM me if you want).[/quote']

No problem - in the post ;)

Paddy

A pole and wheel clamp combo might deter all but the most determined scrote enough and make them look elsewhere for an easier target..

A couple of fake 'Clay pidgeon shooting champion' or ' European kick boxing champion' certificates framed and sat conveniently on the window sill might make them think twice....

What I meant was don't have key for lock on poll on the same bunch as car keys.

Hopefully when all your work is done they will f**k off, useless w**kers (GO AND FIND A JOB LIKE EVERYONE ELSE).

btw if you want a hand with anything give me a shout
