Headlight adjustment FL

Featured Replies

On the FL headlights there are 2 adjusters behind the projector dipped beam. All the threads and replies I've searched except one state that one is vertical and one is lateral adjustment. This is not the case, they both seem to effect only vertical movement. The other thread briefly said one alters the projector and the other the housing? but did not expand.

Does anybody know anything more about this? I have not been able to find anything on-line to clear up this issue. I had a minor bump and after repair the lights weren't quite aligned and I have corrected them until I can get it in for setting up properly but I would like to understand what these 2 adjusters do

I believe I have the answer!

I looked inside the light and observed that both of the adjusters connect to 1 side of the projector rather than centrally.

So, if you turn the top adjuster to pull the beam up, presumably it moves the connecting point of the projector/adjuster (captive nut on threaded rod?) back and also causes some lateral movement as this point is off the centre line (also twisting the beam so it is no longer level).

If you then correct it with the lower adjuster, pulling the beam back down also moving the connecting point back (and re-levelling the beam), you have effected lateral adjustment.

I just need some darkness now to confirm!

Err good luck and hope you can sort it. My memory of adjusting my standard halogen  bulb type FL headlamps was that it was pretty simple and there were separate vertical and horizontal adjusters. A few years ago now.

I know it sounds like the ramblings of an incoherent fool :drunk: but having tested it I can now confirm it is correct. There has been a number of posts asking how to make lateral adjustment to the headlight beam and why both the adjusters seem to move it vertically and not one for vertical and one for horizontal adjustment. This seems to be the answer.
