More Power!

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm wondering what options are available for getting more power and faster 0-60 times with a 56 plate vRS 2.0 TFSi? After owning 22 different cars (non Skoda) over the last 10 years I think I've finally found one I can't face selling!

I was told by the seller at HA Fox Jaguar that he thought it had had a remap as it seemed faster than others he'd driven (this was after I'd bought it, it wasn't part of his sales pitch). Can I check this without a dyno? i.e. does anyone know what the 0-60 should be with a remap?

Cheers

Paul

Get it on a rolling road, it should be circa 200bhp standard and anything from 230bhp plus on remap or any other supporting mods. Some stage 1 remaps claim to give 250bhp on the tfsi. Belting cars either way!

Stage 1 remaps can usually see somewhere between 230 and 250ish hp...a very healthy one may see 260ish with no other supporting mods.

I believe the blower, injectors and fuel pump are what hold the power back compared to the higher output variants of the ea888 motor. If you went to the trouble of replacing the fuel pump, injectors and put a KO4 turbo on it you could see a little over 300hp from a map alone; parts alone are probably in the region of 1k though.

Also worth bearing in mind the higher output versions get stronger rods and pistons I believe so running v high power from the standard low spec mechanicals are likely to shorten its life expectancy.

A stage 1 TFSi is plenty quick enough for UK roads though, 0-60 I'd envisage would be dispatched in mid to low 6's id have thought against the high 6-low 7 as standard....it'll be in gear acceleration that will be dramatically improved.

My vRS TFSI is stage 2 tuned; approximately 275 BHP.

0-60 I'd still hazard a guess around the 7 second mark. The reason being is there isn't much point in trying to use full throttle in 1st gear and 2nd gear as it will lose traction. In the wet it'll spin 3rd gear relatively easy.

As mentioned by pipsyp it's all about in gear acceleration when these cars are tuned. My point being don't tune this engine expecting a huge gain from 0-60 MPH. It'll be the 30-50 30-70 50-70 MPH times which really surprise you.

Thanks, will have to get it on the RR and see what it's putting out. It's the only vRS I've driven so not sure if it's been remapped already.

It definitely spins in 3rd when the roads even slightly wet, wish they'd made a 4x4 version!

my stage 2 tsi does 0-60 in 5.9 secs with launch control.

without launch control its 6.1 secs.

How did you get launch control on your car?

How did you measure this?

My fl vrs is in standard form with budget tyres and spins in 3rd in the wet, only just got it so switching the them to my yohohamas. It'll be interesting to see the difference.

it comes with launch control.

to activate.......

1. turn esp off
2. shift into manual ('+'/'-') or sport mode
3. with left foot on brake, apply throttle (don't floor it!) - should only rev upto 2500-3000 rpm
if u cannot rev past 1200 rpm, u do not have launch control
4. foot off the brakes and off u go!!!!!

How did you measure this?

using an obd2 bluetooth module and an android app called torque pro.

the car was wearing the factory fitted contisportcontact2 at the time, with almost 62,000 kms on it.

I have a manual so that's that out the window haha.

turn off ESP for a good launch.  Otherwise you think the engine is going to jump out of the bonnet

I'm thinking of buying a petrol vrs. If I do should I go for a stage 1 or stage 2 remap? Has anyone had experience of both ?

I've not seen either any info or mention of Launch Control, mainly because I was buying a Scout! Is there any guidance or advice from Skoda about the use of LC?

I only ask because I'm sure one of the M BMW's has a LC system that THEY recommend you only use about 3 times otherwise you knacker expensive parts.

There's a guy called Martin over at VWwatercooled.com.au.  Look in the Skoda section.  He's had both and describes quite well the differences

The APR stage 1 was a nice boost,

and mostly certainly the best value for money modification you can do,

the mid range was good but it ran out of breath at high RPM (over 5,000rpm was worse than stock).

At the time I though "that's made it more peppy", drove home and parked the car in the driveway.

The stage 2 tune with a new down pipe and high flow cat was a significant step forward.

This provided yet more low and middle range and cleaned up the top end.

The engine pulls better from as low as ~1200rpm

When you reach ~2600rpm it's game on, pulling hard all the way to red line, simply awesome performance.

Picked the car up at 5pm, it was a real eye opener, decided to go for a drive, arrived home 3 hours later.

Open road overtaking is now effortless - it's very reassuring.

You can't use all this power from a standing start, you need to get her rolling and learn how much throttle to use.

Personally, having been through this experience,

I would just go directly to stage two, the result is far better and still exceptional value/benefit/outcome.

FYI - Stage2 took 40km off my tank range during the daily commute.

On Stage1 I was doing ~580km per tank, stage 2 reduced that to 540km.

However, on the open road (family trip, not gunning it), I can do 680km on a tank, easy.

(My Stage2 VRS uses less petrol than my wife's automatic Mazda3 SP23)

Thanks Brad. This really helps.

I wish there was a thanks button.

regarding his commute - it's like driving around London - it's about 18km & takes 1hr.  My missus used to work around the corner from him
