Which tyres should go where?

Featured Replies

Please feel free to laugh but I am not sure if there is a correct answer here?

I recently purchased 4 used wheels and tyres and put them on my car.

2 of the wheels had goodyear eagles with 4mm and 5mm tread and 2 had goodyear efficientgrips again with 4mm and 5mm tread.

Without thinking, I put the ones with 5mm tread at the front and the ones with 4mm tread at the rear.

Now the efficientgrips are both on the nearside and the eagles are on the offside.

The tread pattern is the same on all 4 tyres so other than my ocd, is there any reason why I should for example have the efficientgrips on the front and the eagles on the rear or just leave as is?

You should the same tyres across the axle

eg efficientgrips on the front, eagles on the rear

Having differing traction on either side of the vehicle is not good

just a question not trying to start an argument or be pedantic .

if you end up have a single tyre side wall puncture repairable . what do you do always buy the same tyre & if not possible what then.

i always have good quality tyres on mine but on the odd occasion a single tyre is req whatever good quality that is on offer is ok as far as i am concerned

You would change both tyres on the axle in that case if you were that way inclined

+1

Traction control systems don't like differing left/right traction either

Bet there are millions of vehicles out there with random tyre mixes though

Probably with random tyre pressures too

I change both and put the part-worn in the garage for next time. Unless it is next time, then I replace with my own part-worn.
