A positive thread

Featured Replies

Hello we see any number of threads were people's cars have gone wrong so I thought I would add one to say how pleased I am with my car.

It is just a 105 hp 1.9 tdi estate on an 09 plate and has just clocked up 60k  perfect miles, The only money spent outside normal servicing has been a set of discs and pads to the front and one headlight bulb.

It averages around 50 mpg  which I consider good with the mostly local driving it does.It is on its third set of front tyres the 1st two sets both lasted about 25k  I could have taken them a bit further they were swapped at 3 mm. The rears did 40k miles so on the 2nd set.

The cam belt was done at just over four years old

Overall the best, most reliable, nicest car I have ever owned.

Its been nearly two years since I 1st posted this and thought i will add to this again still my favourite car now done 80k miles had more tyres and a set of rear pads and another couple of headlight bulbs. Only non service repair was to have the air con compressor nut tighten back up when air con stopped being cold I had the system cleaned out and re gassed at the same time.

At this point when owing a car for seven years ( it being 8 years old nearly ) I normally have itchy feet to look for a replacement but not with this one it still does everything I ask of it so I will be keeping it for the foreseeable future. Regards Roger.

Good news that you're still happy with the car.  It's always nice to hear that people's cars are reliable and do what they were intended to - perform reliably and with minimal running costs.

Never had a minutes trouble in the year I've owned mine.

Now I've passed it on to the Mrs she loves it.

Mine has just started with a problem (airbag light, metallic noise over bumps). But I still have to give it a thumbs up, its the first problem on my 105PD since I owned it, thats 100,000 miles worth in 4 years!
Still on the original turbo and only one clutch change in 175,000 miles isn't bad, especialy when 75k of that has been with a stage 1 from Shark ;)

Since owning mine, racked up 70,000m, two rear springs, 2 sets of headlight bulbs, tyres and servicing. Any other costs are of my own making due to the retrofittig bug. Love it, and having bought swbo a yeti, it's now all mine, mine I say!!!!

I've had mine from new & it's been super reliable, although all service done by dealership. Done 92,000 miles now. Brake discs renewed for first time at 83,000 miles. New gas tail lift struts a couple of years ago. 1 front headlight bulb. Had starting problem late last year & resolved that by buying new battery (the original one was nearly 9 years old & starting to swell).

Car failed its MOT in December due to 3 broken springs (due to potholes hidden in puddles), so had to renew all springs & drop links - I expected that because of clunking & metallic noises.  As good as new now, other than a bit of rust on front of sills (which Skoda want nothing to do with)......Note.....must get front mudflaps on next car.

A further update still loving car it will be 10 years old this week and has now covered 102000 miles and everything still going well.

I have had to have one front wheel bearing changed and the battery died at 9 years but no other big repairs .

My one small moan is I had to have the front discs and pads replaced for a second time at about 85000 so it is on its 3rd set which as it is not driven like a race car seems to be alot but as I say it is only a small moan on an otherwise great car.

Another update just passed mot 109k miles (lock down has kept used low this last few months) only advisory front tyres near legal limit so having rears put to the front and new tyres fitted next week. I see the plate smoke limit is 1.0 but passed on fast pass with 0.77 not too bad as wasnt quite fully warmed up when they did the test and it hasn't had an mway blast for months. Stay save everyone.

Our VRS CR is 10 years old and just coming up for 95,000 miles. Had quite a few issues with turbo, egr, clutch and dmf when we got it remapped a few years back which got refurbished or replaced as required. Had new disks and pads and H&R -50mm cup kit and a whiteline rarb. Its also had a new aircon pump and a radiator last year. Also had wishbone etc replaced so suspension nice and tight. Gets oil and filter changed every 5000 miles. Handles well and still pulls like a train. 205bhp and loads of torque. Mid 40's mpg around town and best was 55.65mpg on a run up to the highlands (measured brim to brim). Also got 16" winter wheels and tyres. Never been stuck even in thick highland snow in winter. Will keep it until it dies. It's been a great car.

A final reply to my own thread the mk 2 went to wbac today with 145k on it still going strong but turbo vane overboost limp mode was getting more frequent there were also a couple of other thing needing doing from the last mot. What finally prompted the sale was having to pay £12.50 to visit my son who lives in London. In its place is a 2020 mk 3 petrol in lovely race blue. Good luck all Regards Roger.

Good cars.  My own 1.9 TDI from 2005 is facing a big anniversary next year.   Not only will be it be the big 2-0 years old but should also hit (around January/February) 250,000 miles.  Still just needs wear and tear parts replacements.
