Boring Practical type Furby question

Featured Replies

Fabia and octavia feel the same size inside the cabin.

Bootwise though, you could fit the fabia in the octavia boot.

Family + kit,my octavia is more practical than the wife's fabia vRS

Funny you should mention that Chris - it was one of the reasons we ended up buying a particular one from aforementioned shop, as it fitted properly, and there is enough room to fit a babyseat etc.

Only problem was that we were babysitting  - so we had a small child, buggy, child seat + our own new purchase to lug about. Really could have used an Octy boot that day :D

I have to say that we are getting rid of our 2000W Focus for a Fabia and we don't feel that there is really any less room when we've had various test drives.

Out of curiosity just measured door to door (internal) elbow room in my lads 1980 Mk1 Golf - 52". Same measurement in 05 Fabia vRS - 52". Will check the rest when he stops here long enough to do it.

Is the vRS really just a Mk1 (proper) Golf for the 21st century? :)

If you get the right deal etc. you could have the furby redone in leather for

Well they use the Fabia dashboard in the Citi (MK1) Golf in South Africa so that figures okay.

Thanks for taking the trouble to measure up! Not wishing to be out done and for those interested, the Golf MK4 measures at the widest point for elbow room in the front, 57 inches  and from the middle (of the middle) of the back seat to the middle of the dashboard (middle airvents) at half height it measures 60 inches. ;)

Try these 05 vRS numbers against the Mk4 Golf:-

Elbow room (max - remeasured) 55" at widest depression into door cards. Same front and back.

Middle dimension as yr measure above is 58"

Bottom of rear window to bottom of front screen is 96" (2.4m length of 4x2 will fit no problem).

Seat cusion to roof lining 36" (headroom) Roughly same front & back although front is height adjustable bit.

Knee room - backside level to back of front seat 29" with 5'6" short arsed driver (me).

Knee room - backside level to dash 26-27" with same short arsed driver (me).

Boot:-

38" between wheel arches

24 to 25" rear sill lip to bottom of back seat.

21" high - floor of boot to underside parcel shelf

With rear seat folded you have about 60-65" from sill lip to back of front seats depending on the seat positions.

Its raining here in sunny Bournemouth - can't get outside so it passed the time to wave a tape around!

Not been too clever here in Exeter. Looks like I'm gonna have to take the measure out to the garage again!!! Good effort GB!

I don't have a car hole. Car is ok on the drive. Modern cars don't have rust problems nowadays. If frosty windows are an issue install a carport or get a car cover. Octy sounds like the ticket for you. Loads of space. Not quite a Fabia vRS but pretty good and practical at the same time.

Or fabia estate

Right back with Golf cabin dimentions, Grey Beard, all are very approximate:

Bottom of rear screen to bottom of windscreen: 112"

Seat to headlining front: 36" rear 34"

Knee room rear 29"

Knee room front 24-25" with similarly proportioned short **** driver (me)

Boot, couldn't be arsed to measure as I needed to move two cars to access(!) but is definately significantly bigger in the GTI, as I used to own an Ibiza I know for a fact.

Gimme a wave if you see a butchered silver Fabia around town. I work up in Pinhoe. :)

Will certainly do.

Mines a black mk4 GTI with Evolo alloys on (like the ones you ruined when you rolled your last Furby!!!)

How do you rate your Dad's mk5 Golf suspension wise to your Furby Jason? That's my next choice if the vRS deal doesn't come off which is likely again.

Well I guess there's not actually too much in it from the passenger/drivers room standpoint between the Golf & the vRS, but an extra 16" of B&Q length plus the bigger boot gives it to the Golf if those aspects are high on the list.

End of the day we'll all tick different boxes, depending on individual circumstances, then go with what takes us (or what we can afford  )!

Comes down to the old value for money judgement really. :)

Simple ... buy a combi and a dog guard.

Problem solved :)

Well I've done the deed and a Black Fabia vRS now resides with me. It's an '05 reg with 9k miles and the first service completed by my local VW dealership!

Well done mate

What sort of deal did you get? Looks a nice spec from your signature. Any particular reason you got a VW dealer to service? If my local ones are anything to go by, mine's going to a Skoda dealer everytime

Reason for service at the dealership was that it was a condition of sale - and I bought it from a VW dealer! Good deal? Well not a great deal, but an okay deal, paid about 11200 so about the going rate with that spec.

Glad you decided to take the plunge, I hope yours impresses as much as mine still does.

Mines on about 7k now and no real complaints, few new clicks and ticks with the onset of cold weather, and my tailgate struts are leaking slightly - common problem but quick fix on warranty this weekend.

The driveability and total package is unbeatable, in pounds per pound of grunt!

Watch out for those cameras though.:thumbdwn: Mrs got done on the test drive!

Hows it comparing on space now you've got it? Remembering our exchanges back in October.

I hoped you'd home in again on the thread, a big thanks for the measurements and encouragement  that kept me negotiating for nearly a month!

How's it compare with the Golf? Well size wise it fits in my garage much better, suprisingly better in fact with loads of room to spare considering the similar interior dimensions. Inside there is a little less room but not massively so, I find being a shorty, that the A pillar masks junctions a bit and also seems very close, but the black headlining probably emphasises this a bit. The dash is obviously a lot cheaper than the mk4 Golf's, but that did have one of the classiest dashboards of any car in any class, so I don't hold that against the much much cheaper (when new) Fabia, and the mk5 Golf's dash is nothing to write home about. I sort of miss the Blue backlighting of the Golf's dash but that did become a bit tiring on the eyes after a while I sometimes found so the green should be a bit easier going there. The Fabia has lots of neat little features that you don't notice straight away (is the passenger airbag de-activation switch standard?) but the Golf had many classy touches that also took a while to really appreciate. I've not had chance to use the boot yet and have been so busy at work lately I've literally only done a handful of miles in the little beast.

Obviously you can only compare the Golf with the Fabia's interior space for a real comparison as they fit into different market segments and very different price brackets. Suffice to say though, that having owned literally dozens of VAG cars, I think it holds it's head up very well to the much pricier Polo and it's Ibiza cousin.

I'll see how it behaves over the coming months.......:)

Nice little review

Oh, and the airbag deactivation is an option. Well, it was when I got mine as I haven't got it :)

Steve

Mine, which was a bog standard ex demo, has it so I think they must be standard.

Glad to have been of some assistance, the only thing I'm tiring of is also the lack of time to blat it around as much as I'd like. That little distraction often described as work (paid slavery!) seems to be demanding more than anything else at present, in my case too. :)

Never mind maybe it'll get better next year... never mind maybe it'll get better next year.... never min........

If you're over in 'sunny' (24hr binge drinking capital of the S Coast) Bournemouth anytime let me know.

ATB

Airbag de-act was an optional and charged extra - which is a little surprising, but ah well :)
