I have a pipe at the back of the engine!?

Featured Replies

Tried uploading a pic but my phone won't let me take a small quality one.

It looks like a breather pipe. Back of the engine at the top gearbox side.

Reason I ask, it just hangs down the back of my engine. Wedged into the bulkhead. Was thinking I should cut back and put a small filter on?

Anyone know what I mean?

It's an ASZ engine. Sorry!

Anything on the nipple on the back of the airbox?

Worst case, bring it over to me in Exmouth.  I know where all the vacuum pipes are meant to go on these engines.

It's meant to have had a dump valve at some point. Buts its been capped.

I know very little for the min. Just relaying what I've been told.

Oh, sounds non OEM then....  I'll still take a look and you always have my car as a reference :D

Sounds like the bodge known on here as 'the elephant mod'

Does the pipe run down from your cam cover?

And the blank you talk of is on the turbo intake pipe?

If you want some peace of mind I am happy to do a full VCDS scan and some boost logging to ensure all is well - All F.O.C.  I might charge a fiver for a passenger ride in the mongrel to show you what a mk1 Fabia can do though. :D

Spot on Coskev. From cam cover down the back of the engine.

I'll check the dump valve blank off. Haven't looked myself.

I'm up for popping over Devonutopia. Do you work at a garage?

Diesels don't have dump valves. The way the engine works means it will never work if you fitted one. I have a feeling what I think you are looking at is the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve. Is it the thing on top of the engine in the intake pipe, near to the brake fluid tank?

Take a big quality pic then and just upload somewhere on the net and post the URL lol

Does sound like coskev says, the elephant mod a likely suspect - nothing to worry about if thats the case, just a vent bypass for the nasty oil gasses that would normally gunk the intake and EGR

Theres an Egr valve fitted. No blank off, which I was thinking of fitting.

Think I'll just cut the pipe off and put a small filter on it.
