Siren part number

Featured Replies

Anyone know the part number for the alarm siren. Mine no longer works and according to the had book the life is only 6 years.

1K0 951 605 C.

I had an 'A' revision but replaced it with a 'C' when it packed up as i read somewhere it had a better battery but don't know how true that is.

Get one off the newest car you can find as it should last longer! . I got mine from eBay, same siren on loads of VW's and Audi's so plenty of choice.

For the competent DIYer can you tell us what the battery cells are?

It may be cheaper to replace those.

i have seen that information posted in the past on a motoring forum. I will see if I can find it.

Is there a how to guide on how to replace the alarm siren as I would love to have a chirp on lock and unlock

It's pretty much it. Only difference is the existing one has a prong that is soldered into the board at each end. I emailed the one you gave a link for earlier today, but so far no response on when/if they will be in stock.

If you put the battery no into Google images there is a link to a passat forum that shows the newer alarm. Mine is a D.

Thanks for the lead.

It's just a battery pack made from five V200H Ni-MH 1.2v rechargeable button cells.

I've seen them online for 1.50€ each so an easy and cheap fix.

I test my alarm monthly so when it fails I'll just buy 5 of the cells and hold them together like the original battery with heat shrink tubing and solder them in place.

If you don't have that to hand I'm sure you could improvise with glue/silicone/whatever, just be sure the cells are secure and the battery reads 6v.

Presumably the alarm unit is sealed so I'll need a hacksaw to open it and silicone sealer on reassembly.

BTW Could you tell us where the alarm unit is and what's involved in getting to it?

Just to be helpful :-)

AFAIK the chirp feature is only enabled through VCDS if at all.

Yes, I enabled mine with VCDS.

It's in the drivers side front wing. Takes 10mins to get out. Turn wheels full right lock, undo about 4 of the screws holding the liner into the wheel arch towards the rear. The alarm is held at the top in a metal bracket. 12mm and 10mm nuts hold it in place (there is also a screw but that was corroded so the bracket just got bent out of the way!). The unit is sealed, but it cuts easily with a hacksaw along the obvious seam (don't go too deep as the seam lines up with the circuit board inside).

Mine had a black stain on the board and when I cleaned it there was bare copper exposed so presumably the board is toast. Where did you see the batteries, I might replace them just to see if it's any good. Seems too risky getting a second hand one of eBay as they probably won't last long.

Thanks for the info again.

Here's where I saw the cells:

If you've just exposed the copper tracks on the circuit board but haven't damaged them don't worry.

You can repair broken tracks with silver conductive paint, usually used to repair damaged rear window demister.

If you think the elements are likely to corrode the bare copper tracks then by all means cover them in Vaseline, grease, paint or whatever water insoluble product you have to hand, you want to get your 6 years out of the new battery you just installed!

What controller would I go to enable this

No idea, I don't have VCDS.

Ok finally had time to sort the alarm. On closer inspection the board in mine was too far gone to bother with the new batteries.

I was given a spare working alarm but when I plugged it in it didn't work. I left it in the car for a couple of days to make sure the batteries were charged, but still no joy. I've opened the alarm up and it's in good condition internally and the batteries have just over 6v in them.

I've got a permanent 12v going to the alarm, but no idea what the other 2 wires do, presumably one is an earth and one sends a signal. Anyone know how to check the wiring?

Are these fitted as standard to all cars? Is there an easy way to test if it works?

What controller would I go to enable this

09 - Cent. Elect.

Anyone know how much these are brand new? Second hand on ebay seem to be £30 standard.

I seem to remember they were about £115 a couple of years back.
