Main dealer service

Featured Replies

Hi

I am new to this forum having only bought a Fabia 10 days ago. I wanted to ask a view from here though. I bought a 2012 Fabia from a main dealer, and aside from having an MOT and valet had assumed they would service it. When I picked it up it had not had a service, last service was 8 months ago.

I can honestly say this is the first time in my driving lifetime - 26 years, that I have bought a car which did not have a service when it was sold. So much so that I did not ask at the time because I assumed they would do it out of course.

Equally so far have two faults with the car - 10 days in, not good.... :rain:

any views? Is it just me?

thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Was it not a 'Skoda Approved Used Car'?

Check with Skoda UK the Service and Warranty History.

What did you get in the way of a Warranty, only 3 months?

george

i also would have expected the car to be serviced if the last stamp was more than 6 months ago, ring the salesman up and ask him if they forgot to stamp the book because you did say they would service it, can he really remember what he says when he sells every car?

All the cars I've bought hadn't been serviced before delivery, one from a ford main dealer, one from cargiant in london and one from an independent dealer, tbh I don't expect them to unless it was due one, or within say 1,000 miles of one. Saying that, I've never had a mechanical problem with any of them. With the vehicle you have being last serviced 8 months ago, with variable servicing it may not be due for another year and a bit, so I can understand why they may not want to service it as it wouldn't even be halfway towards the next service interval. Also as mentioned above, was it Skoda approved used?

Hi

It had a years warranty with it, which again is why I thought it would have been serviced, as it stands now in order to keep the warranty I will have to have it serviced in 3 months...it feels a little like I am being sucked into having to pay for a service as a sting for the years warranty.

The pre-sale check isn't worth the paper its written on either, 1 week in and the coolant warning level alarm went off, coolant 1" below minimum, have topped it up at the roadside but it looks like it is losing some very slowly...also on first day home discovered both catches for the boot cover roller thing were bust....still glad I bought from a main dealer for the first time in my life....

Yes it is approved, service interval wise it says every 12 months, so May for me...

haha I had the same problems with my fabia when I got it, coolant was low, I found it was leaking from the joint of the top and bottom parts of the expansion tank, hasn't dropped since, left it below the max mark, just above min. Both catches were also missing, I followed one of the guides on here to fix it, cost me £7 in parts and an hr or so fitting it, apparently it's a common thing.

If it is a Skoda Approved Used car, then it needed the Skoda Approved Used Car Checks and report doing.

As to the Service, if Fixed Annual 372 days / 9,400 miles or Variable,

the Brake Fluid Change is at 3 Years.

You need to speak to the Dealership Principal or the Senior Sales Exec and see what is going on with the car.

?

So what Mileage of car, and is this it needing the MOT because 3 years old now or almost,

ie First Registered Feb 2012.?

If it is a 'Skoda Approved Used Car', you could tell them to take it back,

or get their lazy backsides into action and have the car properly Inspected & Serviced and fit for sale.

Yes its done just over 22000 and they have MOT'd it as it was close to due

39 day/1000 mile exchange.

Take it back, get them to fix it, service it and start again. Or ask for an exchange.

Skoda are the ones that invalidate Warranties if you go over Service Intervals.

So unless on Variable Servicing a 3 year old car is,

Minor Service Annual,  Major Service Annual, Minor Service at 3rd year. (Higher Mileage different maybe, but this is on 22,000 miles.)

So 8 Months ago means really the Dealership needs to have the Service Done and keep the Warranty they are giving Valid.

Do a rather cheap to them Oil & Filter Fluids etc,  and Visual Inspection and Stamp the Book for a 'Minor Annual Service.

Do any Skoda Updates.

Is it worth speaking to Skoda UK as well?

thanks

Best talk first with the Dealership Manager or Principal. See what they say.

Skoda UK CS will usually say it is between you and the Dealership,

but after the Dealership mess you about ask Skoda UK what all the 'Skoda Approved Used Car' stuff is about,

and why they are putting their name to it.
