Some strange lights on dashboard!

Featured Replies

I have a 2012 Fabia SE Plus 1.2 TSI (86bhp or something) and a strange problem started yesterday...

While driving in the dark, the battery light and the low washer fluid lights came on. When I switched the lights off before stopping the car, these lights went off. The washer fluid was full, and the car starts as normal so I think it is charging (but havent checked yet).

Tonight it did the same thing, and also when I opened the driver's door (engine off, key not in ignition), the battery and seatbelt not fastened lights came on.

Any ideas? I'm thinking my instrument cluster is stuffed, or could it just be a software thing?

Needs plugging into vcds id say. Should shed more light shouldnt it

Is it still under warranty?  If so I'd get the dealer to check it...

Loose connection maybe? My dealer found that one of the main block plugs going in to the main CPU (whatever it's called on cars) wasn't clipped in properly.

It is still under warranty, but my nearest Skoda dealer is over 100 miles away plus a ferry crossing.

Does anyone have any experience using the Skoda roadside assistance? The book that came with the car says it will transport it to the nearest Skoda dealer. It's not my fault it's so far away!

Yeah ring em up. Im sure theyll sort it. See what they say

What about speaking to J&W Tait.  a VW Dealership can help you out.

Or talk to Skoda UK Customer Services, and see what they are going to do.

Maybe they will have J&W Tait deal with the problem.

E-mail sent to customer services, so we'll see what they say. J&W Tait's haven't been a VW dealer since 2008, but they are prepared to look at and have up to date diagnostic kit. Just a question of whether Skoda are happy to pay for me to have it done at a non dealer.

Slightly off topic, but who is most likely to do a decent job if I have to take it to the mainland? Arnold Clark in Inverness or Specialist Cars in Aberdeen. Have heard good and bad reports of both.

I have the same kinda problem, only mine is the traction control light and washer light. These are much dimmer than the other lights and I can only see them when my headlights are switched on. Skoda are replacing the instrument cluster on Thursday.

These are mine, they can even be seen if it's dark and I haven't got my headlights on it will flash if I use my right indicator or open the door!

Not Inverness.  that would not be a good idea

& Aberdeen would be the option,  Victoria Garage 'Maud  probably the best option, but these are going to cost,

because Skoda Assist do not cover all expenses.

You should be able to have the problem diagnosed and repaired on Orkney much cheaper.

If it is a Warranty Issue, then hopefully Skoda UK will come up with the best option to reduce their costs,

and you should not have to inccurr.

Got a phonecall from customer services today. They are not prepared to help in any way. They said it was up to me to take it to a dealer and I was obviously aware of the fact there was not a dealer locally when I bought it in Edinburgh...

I wouldnt be happy with that.

Did you tell em you arent happy driving the car with this malfunction?

Blag it. Say you dont believe its safe to drive, you dont know what to think, you cant tell if there is a serious problem with the cars electrics or its just the display etc etc.

Im sure theyll do something about it then

Actually a SK UK CS Manager will change what was said,

as they have had to in the past and cover the price of ferry travel.

Maybe ask to speak the a SK UK CS Manager like John Good or Tom Chadwick.

It is a minor problem,

but it is their minor problem and they best help them selves reduce the costs of rectifying it.

They arent helping themselves are they.

Being a pain and making the customer pay the expenses to have their problem fixed isnt going to make him want to buy another in future.

Take into account a day off work, fuel etc n itll have cost the OP fair bit, and thats if its sorted the same day.

Just imagine the Adverts for the new Fabias.

What Car car of the Year,  All New 3rd Generation Skoda Fabia.   'Simply Clever'.

*Do not think of buying one if you are not on Main Land British Isles, if it has manufacturing faults, you are on your own,

you are silly taking one of your products far from a Dealership.*

Pretty much aha.

Simply clever. Till something goes wrong. Then you have to be simply cunning to be able to persuade em to sort it.

Hi George, I bought my Monte from Inverness AC and have the 3 years free servicing. Are they a bad outfit? I know a lot of people slate AC and I did have a few problems with the sale of the car, mainly with the px. Should I be looking good at getting the service elsewhere and if so how does that work with the free servicing?

You just have to check everything when your car goes in,

and when you get it back, ask what they are doing, and then that they did it, and check the invoices.

You know what is being done at a service, so that should not go wrong.

Right ok, thanks. I'm not familiar with all the bits that the wrench monkeys tinker with, is there anything in particular I should be checking? I've heard of people marking the oil filter and air filter, is that the kind of thing? The car will be 2 soon.

Jonro, which service is this? Minor or major?

Edit: 2 soon? So this will be its 2nd year major service?

That's right, 2 years of in a couple of months so I guess it will be a major one. It won't have done 20k miles though.

Sounds like its roughly the same age as my car.

I was gonna say, if its just a minor service, its mainly just an oil change. My car was in and out in 30mins, so shouldn't be too much to worry about aslong as the levels are right.

But the second entails a lot more.

I've decided to not bother with the main dealer this year. I've had a chat with an independent skoda specialist 12 miles from me. He seems a genuine bloke, talked me through everything they'll do and there was a lot more stuff than the dealers would. Plus he seems to take pride in his work.

On the bonus side. Hes charging £190 and the dealers want £260.

That's a good price! My services are free so I will have to take it to a main dealer. I'll just have to do a bit of research, see what they do and go from there

Even if on a Service Plan, they should be doing this as a minimum.  You paid for it, the same as someone paying on the Day

& a Minor Service is not done and dusted in 30 minutes,

http://skoda.co.uk/owners/service-and-maintenance/national-pricing/servicing

& get giving a report & check list, and doing the Body Check should be done and written in the Service Book, or on the Computer,

and what you are watching for is the Correct Oil, correct Quality,

Pollen Filter done at 2 Years, and Wheels & Brake Drums off at 2 Years, Brake Fluid changed at 3.

Not a Reception Desk saying. 'It did not need doing'.

What you might want left out is the Wash, as long as you present it clean.

Thanks George, that link was really helpful. I know what to expect now.
