fabia 1.4 16v tuning help!?!

Featured Replies

Hi all, i have a fabia 1.4 16v 100bhp and was wondering what route is best to take for engine modding? I have seen other threads on this but no concrete stats. Thanks

Sell it and buy a vRS!

As its a naturally aspirated engine, ie no turbo or supercharger there's no easy gains to be made

Granted i thought as much but tbh i like my little 1.4, i might have to look at a vrs aslong as insurance dosent have my pants down

That's not to say you can't. ABT did a kit back in the day that took the 16v to 130hp

I read about that but had no luck finding it, if its only going to take it to standard vrs level then probably more sense just to upgrade. But on the other hand i want a sleeper fabia so bad haha

Forget it, the ABT 'kit' was a pair of Schrick cams, a piggyback ECU, a bigger airbox from a larger VW engine and Iridium plugs, it was REALLY expensive and allegedly gave 140BHP, more like 130BHP as Joe said.

Best mod is to always run it on Super-plus unleaded, perks it up nicely.

Focus on the terrible handling if you want to go faster.

I run ultimate through every couple of weeks and can see a difference but no major pick ups, looks like a new furby or an octy then

It may take it to stock VRS bhp, but it'll still have less torque.  As said it's very expensive too for the modest gains.

Plus the VRS bhp is underquoted and many make 140 anyway... so it'll always be slower in a straight line.

If you want to make a sleeper it's easier to buy a VRS and put standard bumpers on it, then rip the spoiler off.

That way you can do a simple remap and see 170-180bhp easily.

I am a fan of the 1.4 16v engine in the Fabia, but it's a daily hack not a performance tool.
