But it's just been for service and no mention of low oil level.

Also came with a 1l bottle of oil in the boot in a little bag thing - is this standard? Not opened that either though. It is castrol edge professional longlife III 5w30 507 - the car was previously set to variable servicing so not sure if it is different now it's on fixed.

  • No it's not normal to drive 13000km without checking your oil

  • The senors only tell you when it's too low so you could be driving around with wrong tyre pressures and low oil for a long time before it hits the sensor alert stage.   As for '...top up if needed.'

  • It's not that I'm principally against checking fluids, but I don't see why the sensor trigger level is (assumed to be) below critical and/or harmful levels.   If they can detect the oil level and th

The first one was sold by an ESSO or Shell station, but I don't remember the brand. I'm in the process of finding back the place of purchase via my fuel card (which I used for said purchase) to find the brand and type used.

- edit -

Concerning the first fill-up which I'm pretty sure was done with oil from an Esso or Shell station, google shows me this result, amongst others:

this oil is certainly available for sale.

Thanks - one lives and learns...

You have a particulate filter so have to stick with 507.00 spec oils

Well mister Bold&Blue, maybe it takes a while before technology reaches as far as where you live, but I checked! The 507.00 spec was on the bottle both times.

Also, I re-read the most recent manual I could find (May 2014) and that mentions the 507.00 spec alright, but I couldn't find anything about the xWx0 value:

starting page 192, "engine oil".

I'm not sure if you are being a nob or not - I was just trying to make it easier to read and offer some information

Good luck with it all.

Castrol Edge 5W-30 is both 507 00 and currently on offer at Cocstco £25.90 incl. for 4 litres.

On the bottle is a text number to check the oil for your car, simply text "OIL" to 83080 (UK and NI) or 57778 (ROI)

I check mine quite often as I tend to run some engine high temps.

Whatever happened to Castrol ? I remember years ago Castrol GTX selling like hot cakes, then all these new fangled synthetics came in and sort of stole its thunder.I can't remember the last time I used Castrol now, back in the day ,though,I used it in all of my cars.

Ah, you beat me to it - popped in to my local tonight and saw that. Given that the Halfrauds price on the same size container is £46.99, that's rather a steal.

That is a good price.  I got a couple of bottles from somewhere on line... Amazon iirc..a while back for about £27 each, I've not seen it any cheaper.  Can get it on eBay for £31.50 if that works better for you then Costco.

Yeah I'm gonna have to get bottle as my chainsaw loves it for chain oil still only put a small top up in the car but to be fair, it has had a service recently.
