Petrol Generators

As above am tinkering on getting a generator so can give car a good clean in and out, looking at a honda  2.2 KVA what does that equate to anybody know.

 

Will it run  a hoover, polisher, drill or is it undergunned comments welcomed good or bad cheers.

2.2KVA = 2.2KW - an appliance with a standard 13A plug could draw up to 3.25KW** I don't think any one of those items used on its own would over stress it, but not used together (if you have a sufficient number of free hands!).

 

 

 

**from my rusty physics lessons Power (Watts) = Volts x Amps, so 250*** x 13 = 3250W

At 230v, you get P = 2990W.

 

Either way, if I actually wanted to power a 3kW device, I'd buy a bigger gennie.

It would only be one appliance at a time dont know a great deal about generators. I know i dont want chinese. Honda have a good reputation seen plenty using them with tools just never took much notice.

I'd trust the Honda donk; it's whether or not the gennie armature is up to carrying a 35% overload.

Primery tool would be a 500 watt polisher hopefully so guess by the calculations should be alright, or am i misunderstanding long time since i was at school.

2.2 Kva is 1.76 kilowatts which works out at 7.65 amps @ 230v

To convert Kva to Kw divide by 5 then multiply answer by 4.

As your polisher is only 0.5kw or 2.17 amps you should have plenty to spare.

Thank you for that put my mind at ease, maths not a strong point does say he run a cement mixer off it, but what they say and what they actually do is another thing.

As per the above, a 2.2kVA Honda will do any 2 of your 3 at once; give us the rated powers for all 3 and we'll re-run the sums.

As stated main item will be a 500 watt polisher for doing the car, and a small electric hoover,and power drill will be around same power.

 

Little Grinder nothing overly big.

I'd reckon the polisher, hoover and drill will be at least 1100W, and could be as much as 2000W so say 90% of the rated output. Don't try and use the drill and grinder together nad it should be ok.

Off topic anecdote:

My dad works for Machine Mart. A customer once returned a petrol generator because it didn't generate petrol...

I had one of these, I appreciate it isn't a generator, it is a petrol powered pressure washer.

 

As good as it was it was noisy. Assuming you need it for remote / off-site detailing I'm pretty sure the racket will soon get annoying...

 

 

Battery technology has come on leaps and bounds over the recent years, a couple of 18V 5.0Ah Li-Ion battery's fitted to a cordless polisher will detail a whole car easily...

It will be one item at a time its only for my private use, i dont have a drive way and my vehicle is not near . Have now bought the said machine powered large 110 drill and a grinder no issues.

 

As for the noise i appreciate its about 70 decibels ,and may upset some but it will be done when there is plenty  of noise anyway.
