Closing door with window down

Featured Replies

Guys, does anyone else have the issue when closing the door with the window down it makes quite a loud noise and sounds like it's going to break something? Mine sounds like it is missing some rubber or cushioning and makes a 'crack' when I close the door.. Happens on both front doors?

Steve

The glass does move about in the door a bit when retracted; cant say its anything as noticeable as it was on my Mk2 Fabia vRS but it does it to some degree and is normal.

Just one area of cost cutting compared to its higher cost VAG stablemates Im afraid.

Mine does the same. I avoid doing it now.

Yeah its cost/weight saving just, avoid doing it, it'll make you feel better.

In addition, I've found myself being ultra critical of my car but, I do feel a lot better about it whenever I travel in other peoples cars, try it yourselves, its puts the small things back into prospective.

Yep, body panels are made from Coke cans and windows out of light bulb glass. Boot floor is 6mm MDF covered in the worlds cheapest carpet, and lower dash plastics taken from old Datsun's. Weight-saving or cheap-skating? My guess is the latter.

My VW transporter van hasn't been painted on the underside of the bonnet, it is just in a grey primer

It doesn't bother me, just how it is :-/

The body panels are much thicker than many cars I've owned especially a few Peugeots although. Weight saving does make the car much more spritely though, probably why my old 106 gti could do a standing quarter mile in 15 seconds dead with only 120bhp.

The door cards do feel cheap though and the boot floor does feel flimsey compared to the one that was in my Passat. Saying that I brimmed the boot of my combined with logs for my wood stove almost up to the headlining and it did it no harm.

My Passat, Volvo s60, Mercs, 2 x GTI's MK5's, etc etc all did this.

The glass does create some strength within the door when in the upright position so when down it will sound/feel different.
