Soft rear suspension on VRS TDi

Featured Replies

I have always felt the rear suspension of my 07 plate vRS TDi was a bit soft especially under acceleration.

So today I took some pictures, and with about half a tank of fuel in it but nothing in the boot I can fit 4 fingers between the front tyre and the arch , but at the back only two fingers . I am guessing the rear springs have had it?

I don't really want to go down the route of lowering it as I have a removable swan neck towbar at the back which when in use I have a Thurle bike rack on with 3 mountain bikes on plus stuff in the boot.

Has anyone else suffered this?

I am thinking of just getting some standard springs and putting them on the back and hopefully all will be well?

Any advice gratefully received.

The front and rear arches are completely different, the curve on the rear follows the wheel and the front has a raised bit in the top part of the curve. This is to allow all the movement that the front does when steering and going up and down. So the gap is not an indication of worn suspension.

ok,

Gap aside at rear, although if you look in the top pic you can see the car appears to be higher at the front.

When you accelerate the back dips down and thus the front end gets light, traction control goes crazy,

not what you expect from a "sporty" version of this kind of car.

Just wondered if this was a problem encountered before .

How many miles? Probably find your rear shocks are on their way out. Take a measurement from the centre of the wheel to the centre of the wheel arch and it should be 365 + or - 10mm.
