Electrical issues, won't start

Featured Replies

Recently having issues starting my car, put the key in and wait a couple seconds as usual... All interior lights and radio etc work perfectly fine. As soon as you turn the key to start all power is cut to absolutely everything in the car.  Not even the lights in the doors or interior will work. Tried both keys and checked battery voltage, all fine.  Only way to start it is to remove the battery for a few seconds and then it's back to normal. I've been keeping tools in the car in case it happens when i'm leaving work etc, is it immobiliser related or something else?

it sounds like an earth failure  if you get someone to try whilst listening under the bonnet you may well hear it go give it a good clean up----  if it was a battery internal short I would guess it not start at all

Problem with this is that it has only happened 3 times and it's completely random :(

clean up the terminals and wait for next time---I had a Terrano which would fail randomly like this every few weeks--- popping the bonnet and touching nothing else it would start took ages to figure it out

Had a look at the terminals and the positive side doesn't tighten fully, must have been like this since I bought it, as I haven't had it off or even looked at it really.  All sorted now :D
