Buying a Fabia

Featured Replies

I'm looking at a Skoda Fabia 1.9 diesel (2000), but I'm a complete amateur with cars so I need a bit of advice. It's only going for

I wouldn't buy it. I would look for something else, or save your money up and spend more. At 200000 miles things start wearing beyond the obvious. If you are keen enough get an AA inspection...........

200,000 miles is a lot, even for a diesel and I'd be expecting some of the expensive parts to be wearing out at that sort of age, gearbox, turbo, etc. I'd also be very weary about a seller who has halved the price based on a fault which should go away if the car is used every day!

As said above, if you're serious, get it checked out by a mechanic/AA so you don't get ripped off :D

Leave well alone. Too many miles!!! At that milage any fault opens up a hornets nest !!

If the battery is going flat while sitting idle, isn't that just a replacement battery? My Rover did that - fine if you used it every day, but leave it for a couple and it wouldn't start.

If he is offering it for

Battery going flat does sound like a new battery is needed, probably only about

Fair point. Though he'd likely have made it

Steer well clear. :)

If it drives OK, tell him you'll have it for
