CV joint boot

Featured Replies

Evening all,

My mot is due soon & it was noted on the last one that the drivers side inner boot had a slight split in it but was not letting dirt in.

How easy are these to change & where is the cheapest place to get it done near Gateshead?

Thanks,

Craig.

Hi you can buy universal boot kits which come with there own jubilee clip. Ive only ever done 1 before

Which i found a pain to do. But first i would suggest if this was just an advisory the last time. Then get under car and check this split hasnt got any bigger and act let the greese out!. If its lost all grease and been like it for weeks or months chances are a new cv joint is likely

If the split hasnt got bigger then leave it to see if passes again. No point fixing if it doesnt need it

Hehe, I think the previous owner of the Polo I just bought thought along these lines.  Previous two MOTS both had the advisory N/S outer CV protective boot split but not letting in grit, or words to that effect.

MOT due for me in the next three weeks or so. Will I be 'seeing if it passes again'? Erm, no.

Somewhere cheap to fix it near Gateshead? I'd've thought almost everywhere near Gateshead would be cheap to get it fixed. I say that out of envy, not North/South prejudice. :)
