Starting problem

Featured Replies

Hello, can anyone suggest what might be wrong with my recently purchased 2010 Octavia Estate Diesel.

On first attempting to start the car in the morning the dash lights up as normal but on turning the key fully clockwise nothing happens apart from what sounds like a clicking noise from behind the dash,  It sounds a bit like a sticking solenoid switch.   After perhaps a dozen attempts the car will start and run normally,  It will start and run first time every time subsequently until the following morning when again it will fail to start.   This morning I noticed a white spanner symbol steadily illuminated on the dash.   I tried speaking to a Skoda agent but they weren't particularly interested.  The battery appears fairly new and all battery and earth connections are sound.

Many thanks

Bought from a dealer or privately ?

Could be a number of things.

Best bet is to see if any fault codes are stored which may point you in the right direction.

Try switching on the headlights before you try starting it.

Watch what happens to the lights as you turn the key and report back.
