4x4 estate suspension upgrade advice

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm looking for a little guidance. My father is running my old car and is keen to upgrade the suspension.

The car in question is a remapped (207 BHP on Sharks rollers in 2012) 2002 1.8t 4x4 estate. Barring an upgraded dump valve, the car is otherwise standard.

I've done a little research, but not being an expert, am a little stumped regarding options.

He is looking to sharpen up the handling, but is ideally aiming to change springs only, rather than coil overs / anti roll bars etc.

His local car spares had sourced some Eibach springs, but these resulted in the car sitting lower at the back (?? 2wd springs).

Am I correct in thinking R32 springs are suitable?

Any and all advice gratefully received.

R32 stuff would be ok imho

Curb weight of both is just shy of 1500Kg

Personally I'd advise putting the R32 shocks and ARBs on too

Then get the dogbone changed and S3 upper & lower struts

After doing that you'll be going round corners alot faster, and maybe the brakes will seem a little under powered ..

So get some 312mm front brakes

ideally 256mm rear brakes ..

then the car will be really quite pleasant to drive ;)

Many thanks - I'll pass on the advice.

just a thought about the Eibach spring level issue

iirc the 4x4 uses a couple of spacers in the topmounts to tweak a little extra height - possible that the garage may have left these in
