Ensure

Oh dear I have just pranged my baby citigo and had to call Ensure....first car and first accident so not sure what to expect. :| The car is drivable but badly damaged so it's parked on my drive now.  Ensure said the claims dept. is closed until tomorrow morning so they will ring me back then.

So far in the past year the gear box needed replacing and the hand brake is loose, the local dealership have tried to charge me for the hand brake tightening and tried 3 times to get out of giving me a courtesy car when the gears broke, so not got high expectations right now. Is there anything I need to mention or need to ask for to be certain I get?

Do Ensure automatically go to a skoda garage?

Isn't that one of the "selling" points of Ensure...that it IS a Skoda approved bodyshop....and that you DO get a courtesy car?

This will be through your insurance company, so you shouldn't expect your dealers' to have much input as to how the matter is handled.

Ensure called me back at 8am, after i initially called them at 6pm yesterday, they can not handle it (???) saying the car is not roadworthy so to ring my insurance. Rang insurance that can not send it to a VW approved garage, only to a garage which does VW parts (???), if they send it to the nearest VW garage approved by the insurer it is 97 miles away (theres one actually 2 miles down the road) they then can not give me a courtesy car as its out of area. the insurer has rung DM Keith twice. I have insisted the car is a lease-to-buy and the work must be done by VW approved since the car will be going back to where i bought it....still gotten nowhere after being on phone 45 minutes at 8p per minute. I knew this would happen!

Now the insurance company are having difficulty dealing with it as they can only give a courtesy car from the garage of their choice but skoda was the car to go to leeds (20+miles away)...nobody wants to take responsibility for moving the car which is undrivable

Thanks for the update...doesn't exactly fill me with confidence should I need to claim! I'm hoping that John Lewis Insurance (my insurance company) live up to their excellent reputation should I require them.

I'm thinking that is what kelbirdy meant...easy to mix Ensurance and Esure!

Well if it is, it pretty much states we will sort you out, no worries type of statement.

I'm always wary of free stuff like this, but that's just me. :p

Sorry to hear of your troubles.  If you google the premium rate number you should be able to find a normal (i.e. not an 0870 etc) number

Hi, it was ensurance provided by skoda as in the link above. It got sorted in the end by Skoda Leeds, who were helpful and brilliant. I would not recommend ensurance or admiral to anybody. i'm not even sure why ensurance exists if they cant help you when you need it.

Admiral said they provide a 'free courtesy car'...that was only if you were happy for them to repair your car at a garage of their chosing (no doubt the cheapest). As I wanted Skoda to repair it, Admiral would only send it to Skoda Blackburn, 100 miles away, (Skoda York is 3 miles from here) but they wouldn't provide a courtesy car for any distance beyond 20 miles, and said I'd have to get the car to Blackburn myself. I was on the phone for about 5 hours sorting it out.

In the end, I rang DM Keith accdent line, who couldn't help, but they put me through to Skoda Leeds for advice and they totally sorted it out for me, but I had to pay £45 in insurance cover for the courtesty car they provided. My excess was £350 and the repair cost Admiral £2500. It was an expensive day out for me, I'd just got a student load overpayment refund of £400 I was looking forward to spending on something nice!!!

"garage of their choosing" is usually a repair shop on a trading estate, but this is absolutely fine. A dealer doesnt have a body shop/spray shop, and probably even use the same independant on the estate! They tend to be VAG approved repairers, so its normally fine.
