Anyone using AutoCAD 2000 and XP ?

Featured Replies

At work, I use ACad 2000 LT.

On my previous laptop running Windows 2000 Pro, when I wanted to open a file via File -> Open, the "Select File" dialogue box appears, with the files and directories listed.

Now I've upgraded to XP, I keep on getting an icon list. If I go to Views and select details (Which is what I always want), change directory, it goes back to frikkin icon view.

I've had a look on Autodesk's website. this is the closest to what I'm experiencing, yet it seems to be an OS thing. And I wouldn't mind if it was a list view as they claim it is. But it isn't! It's the icon view which is the most unhelpful view possible. :thumbdwn:

edit: I did do a search on this a few months ago and found a registry hack although it didn't work. Haven't been using ACad since, but need to use it now and it's one of those pet hates that even though insignificant, make you want to try your new golf driver on the lappy  :(

It's doing my head in

Any ideas? please!

I used to use LT 2000 on XP pro.

I dont get the same problem as you with file>open but I do experience it in Explorer. Are you running a server based network?

The reason I ask is that when browsing folders on the server, having chosen "details" on a previous visit, they're back on "preview/thumbnails". This doesnt happen to files on my C drive.

Do you not use "AutoCAD today ?" for opening files?

Got Auto CAD 2006 and XP working fine here

Phil, it makes no difference whether files are stored locally or on a network. I'm not using the today screen (hate that with a passion too! lol)

I've set my view in explorer always to be details (set via tools, folder options, make like current view).

It's only ACad which behaves like this. All other apps with open file dialogue boxes will happily show it as I want them to. Having said that, most of my other apps are MS.

I'm 99% sure it's changed as a result of moving over to XP. All my colleagues who use ACad with XP have the same problem and no one ever had that when using Win 2000. We would be upgrading to a newer version of ACad if only they didn't compress their files which makes it impossible for our management database (Automanager Workflow) to view / preview / work with them :(

I have Acad 2002 & 2004 on XP with no problems although I open all my drawings from windows explorer. I get away with this by using multiple sessions instead of switching between several drawings in one session. I need this as I often use dual monitors. You can switch to multiple sessions by typing sdi at the command prompt and changing the value from 0 to 1 or vice versa.

Other guys in the office don't use multiple sessions and have all sorts of problems opening from within Acad or from Windows Explorer. Probably a network issue as it seems to have started happening after we upgraded to a new version of xp server.

Incidentally, i've stuck with 2002 and avoid 2004 because it seems to be have a bug that prevents me opening certain drawings after a while.

I'll check mine tomorrow but I'm sure AutoCAD LT 2000 doesnt have this problem on my XP machine (or any others in the office).
