Been washing my car wrong for 40 odd years

Featured Replies

Never took a photo of mine this morning because it was too dark, but the roof looked like red suede, tiny beads all over it. Looked nice.

Well mine had beads on the rood as well of various sizes then I realised it was frozen!  I think mine needs a bot more work before I embarrass myself with a photo on here.

If you ever want a hand then give me a shout. Don't mean to be patronising by that!

I never need a hand to embarrass myself but thanks for the offer. :D   Seriously though thanks for the offer of help.  Folk on here have been really helpful and they have helped me spend pounds already!  Went out in the car not long ago and it is covered in dust already so will need another wash at the weekend when I can spend a bit of time on it.  There are a few 'issues' with the paintwork in places and I need to decide what to do about them.  I am thinking a proper buffing of the paintwork to dispose of the issues would be a good place to start and may well have that done first as it will be a good place for me to carry on from.

So washed the car again today. Was it really the 7th of March when I last did it?  Anyway it hasn't been anywhere and I have been busy and whatever other excuse I can come up with.

As it is dry today I thought I would do the car again and this time used the PH Valet foam for the first time.  Just put about an inch in the bottom and it was plenty and loads of foam on the car but it ran off quite quickly.  I assume that means the car wasn't that mucky otherwise it would have stuck around a bit longer.  Pressure washed it off then a TBM wash, pressure washed again and then used the Sonax BSD on it.  I used it like I did last time by just spraying it onto the car whilst it was still wet and then went round buffing it off.

Bit of a problem this time as the car would not buff up very well and I think the BSD had dried too much in the wind and sun.  Quite streaky in places and not very nice at all.  So I got a clean MF towel and sprayed some more on and buffed it off straight away and that seemed to work.  I am being lazy by applying it onto the wet car as it saves me from drying the car first and then going over it all again with the BSD but it looks like when it is warm it is best to do a panel at a time.

Anyway it is clean now and I have cleaned all of the mits and cloths for next time so I am good to go again.

Steep learning curve this detailing lark but worth it as it is far better than the car wash it used to get.

Oh and when it rains I may take a piccie because there were some fantastic beads on it as I washed it.

Nice one

BSD cures very quickly

So you literally have to be quick

Or ..do small areas at a time

Or get a smaller car. :D

OK it is peeing down here and I have beads.

Before you get carried away I have decided not to take pictures and put them on here because jealousy is a dangerous weapon and I don't want to receive hate mail from folk and I don't want to be inundated with request to do your cars either! :p

You will just have to trust me.

Regards Chris

Im saying nothing :x

If you look closely I swear you will be able to see all of the dust and muck that has blown onto it in the winds of the last couple of days.  Still just wipe it all off with a sponge and it should be OK.

Mine was the same..very obvious on white

All I do is give it a quick blast with the hose pipe and dry off

Well as it is our Wedding Anniversary today I am taking Jane out for lunch and with a blast up the A15 towards the Humber Bridge I am hoping most of the muck will just run off.  Or it will be washed off tomorrow as it is going to be p ing it down all day.

Regards Chris

Happy Anniversary...Enjoy the drive
