2015 Amundsen. B.Tooth Phone list seems erratic & Audio off

Featured Replies

Picked up my new Octy 3 this morning (Pics to follow ASAP). Anyway while it was raining I had a play with the Amundsen options and reckon I should be familiar with most by at least Christmas

Paired my Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 no problems then downloaded my contacts and noticed something rather odd.

At the top of my PHONE list I have:

A Julies Mobile (swmbo) The car reckons it's Mobile A (Wrong) And now under M

A Home (Err Home)         The car reckons it's Home A (Wrong) And now under H

Okay so their back to front and the Mrs's name is missing

I also have two contacts, husband and wife listed on the phone as:

John Embleshort. The car reckons it's Embleshort John (Wrong)

and

Sheila Embleshort. The car reckons it's Sheila Embleshort (correct)!!

It, the car, seems to have some contacts as first name - last name and others last name - first name.

This makes it rather difficult finding the contact as they are not where you know they should be scrolling through them.

Any idea why or how to get it to mirror my contacts list?

Part 2.

Do you have to the Media/Radio on all the time while using the Sat Nav, can you turn it off  or Pause (Playing recorded music) while you make a call or just want to return to the same place and continue later playing a new recorded file?

Part 1:
Do you have the contacts with problems stored in different areas on your phone?
e.g. some on the SIM card, others on the phone memory & others in Google Contacts?

I don't have Amundsen but on the Columbus there is an option to "swap" first & second names I think (once you get them all in one order ;) )

Part2:
If you are using the radio you can "mute" the audio.

If are are using "media" you can "pause" playback.

There's not really an "off" function except for turning off the unit completely.

Both should be automatically "muted/paused" when making or recieving a bluetooth connected phonecall or pressing the "phone" button on the steering wheel (if you have it).

Thanks Gabbo, managed to sort out the first name/surname by changing these in settings a couple of times then they came out correctly. I then found that the phonebook was not updating, I changed the name of A Julies Mobile on the phone, logged out of Phone in the car then selected phone again. Only the previous phone book showed.

According to the manual on page 35. User profile>Manage favourites>/Prefix/>/>/>/Import Contacts. Import contacts showed 42/42 and was in green. I tapped this entry that then went grey and showed 0/56 and the 'Prefix' was lit in green.

I could not select 'Delete other user profiles' as I only had one - mine.

Either I have something wrong or missed something to fix the problem or I need to delete the pairing and re-pair it and then re-import the phonebook. On page 40 it states that the phonebook will be updated with each new connection. I will try it again tomorrow. But there must be a way to just update what is already there. Probably another senior moment!!

Something else I found today (1st journey of 100miles at an average of 50 mpg using Eco) can you change the SatNav map to show direction of travel as 'up' on screen whether going N.S.E or West? Going North the map arrow pointed to the screen, coming home - South, it pointed to the floor, every SatNav I have had you can choose this to suit yourself.

Yep.  There's a small icon in the top right-hand corner that looks a bit like a compass.  Tapping this when in 2D map mode will switch between "North is up" and "direction of travel is up".  It's on page 46/47 of my Amundsen manual.

I must admit I find this is probably the most un-user friendly manual :wall:  I have ever come across, thanks iriches I will also check this out tomorrow.

Mind you I did find the Auto Cruise Control pretty nifty today.

Yeah the ACC is pretty awesome, I love it as well.

With my Columbus the phonebook shows "importing contacts" whenever I've come to the car & the contacts have been changed so I would expect that the Amundsen should be the same.

when you "paired" the phone, you should get a couple of bluetooth requests on your phone like:

    - Audio Playback (Headphones/Speaker handsfree) - to allow the phone to send the speaker output to the car

    - Address Book - to allow the phone to access the address book

Did you "always" allow access to the address book at this might cause the problem you've got with contacts not updating again.

Check the bluetooth settings on your phone as well as on the Amundsen unit.

You can also delete the "Skoda_xxx" device from your phone pairing list & it will force a new "pairing" next time you try to connect.

This made me think of something I don't think I noticed in the manual:

How does it handle two drivers with two different phones and two distinct sets of contacts? Dos it understand to switch to the contacts for the particular phone that's connected at the moment or does it mix them all together for a huge mess?

It only displays the contacts from the phone currently connected.

It seems to work well between my phone & my wife's work & private phone.

Blame Samsung for this

Works s3 does it, nexus 5 shows first name first.

The phone book on mine the same, IE last names first and first names last... IE my misses is Smith Emily and my dad is Varder Darth.....

Worked a treat, the arrow is now pointing the direction I am going, not where I have just come from.

Connected this morning after changing a couple of contact names, the unit did not update and I did not see any references to auto importing of phonebook. In the end I deleted the pairing and re-paired then re-imported the phone book and the new changes were shown.

During the pairing I did not notice any reference to Audi8o Playback or Address Book. On my Avensis there was no problem, it automatically updated the phone book and I have not changed any settings on my phone.

I must say I am less than impressed with the Amundsen Sat Nav, entering a destination is long winded one way and poor the other. If I select 'Town' then  street I can then house number (assuming it has a these as many addresses are 'No house number, nearest no 32) when in fact no 76 does exist as I was born there!

If I choose to go via the Post Code option I am advised that 'No street information is available' when the street name is clearly visible on the map and I am only given the choice of navigating to a Junction somewhere on that road.

I will have another play with the phone/car and if that fails a trip to the dealer may be in order which may also be a waste of time and fuel!

Hi Paul. Have a look in your 'profile' There is an option to sort by surname or first name.

Is that profile on the phone or in the headunit its self

It only displays the contacts from the phone currently connected.

It seems to work well between my phone & my wife's work & private phone.

Awesome. It works just as it's supposed to. Good to hear, this means we can both pair our phones without issues. (We get ours next week!)

It is in the head unit, not the phone. Select Phone and setup ( two cogs in lower right corner) Bluetooth>User Profile, you will then (Should) see various options. Select 'Sort By' which gives you the options of Surname or First Name. select the one you want and return. I found that I needed to do this twice before all the contacts were the right way round. I had probably got something wrong so hope you will only need to do it the once.

EDIT: Just spotted yours is an Octy 2 VRS and mines an Octy 3 TSI 1.4. so the head units may not be the same......

I think I have found my problem with updating the phonebook. After a couple of attempts without success and a re-pairing I decided to shut both car and phone down, then closely watch how they connected, once the car and the phone found each other I noticed a message flash across the top of the phone, nothing on the phone face changed so was easy to miss. I dragged down the front face to reveal the setup and running apps and whether Wi-fi and GPS, screen rotates etc information. There was the message: Skoda XXX is trying to connect to contacts and call register. Allow or Cancel? and a box to tick: 'Do not ask again' I ticked that one and Allow and that seemed to do the trick. I will make another phone change and see if it updates correctly tomorrow.

Yeah this was the message I was trying to explain.

This is the problem with phones now, especially Android, there are so many versions with so many interface designs from each manufacturer.

Glad you've got it sorted now though.

Regarding the navigation, it is very much designed around Europe (numeric area code) & many people on here have complained about the postcode search in the UK.

Most OEM navigation units are pretty terrible (and amazingly expensive) compared with the latest (and very cheap) TomTom/Garmin or free Google Maps.

The best thing I have found is to "pre-program" the destinations you might commonly use so its easy to find from the "recent entries".

It will be much better when the navigation data for the maps & searching will come through the internet connection on your phone via GoogleMaps, NokiaMaps etc

Change of plan so did not get to check the phonebook out but I am pretty sure it is now fixed.

My old TomTom 730 is soooooooooo much easier to use! I sat in the car last night trying to enter a destination and stopover points for a trip, after about half an hour I gave up and just entered them as destinations and will use the Sat Nav MFD to go from one to another, much simpler!

Thanks for your help.

Ajw1100 - do you know if your Adumsen is a new version? Skoda started putting an updated version into other models, but no-one seemed to know when the Octavia would be updated. The new version has a larger screen and - I believe - no CD player. Thanks.

Funny you should say that. I was only thinking this morning that my screen looked larger than the Amundsen in my wife's October 14 Rapid, this maybe because of the lower screen proximity 'touch buttons'. Anyway I will take a ruler to them tomorrow. There is still a CD player in mine and I know that many still use these due to higher quality recordings that, dare I say, help compensate for a slightly lower quality system?

My car was built Jan this year and arrived mid Feb so it is quite recent.

Thanks - let us know what you find out!

Isn't the cd player now in the glovebox?
