Poor service

Featured Replies

I had a letter from Skoda uk advising me the car was due for a service as 12 months old so called my local dealer to confirm and to book in for the first service.took the car o a little run to get oil nice and hot for oil change and dropped of at the garage at the agreed time and was asked if I wanted to wait but said i would call back when finished, all good so far.Nearly 2 hrs later service manager called to say the service was not due for another year or many thousand miles more so I asked why I received the letter for the service and was checked and booked in by their service dept but he just rambled on about fixed and variable servicing, anyway as I had only done 5000 miles since May/June I asked for a first service to go ahead, things still ok.2 hours later no call from the garage I make my way back to the garage, service not completed so sit down to coffee and mags,At 14.25 notice car being parked up ,completed.20 mins later I am advised cars ready so I pick up the £199 charge and enquire how much was for labour(£89 for an hour)so before giving them a letter from Skoda uk giving me a£100 off the bill for a previous complaint about their shoddy customer service ,I asked why the charged for 1hour when they had it for 3 and a half hours, anyway after a few minutes of head scratching I present them with letter for £100 off the bill, they then say they can't authorise it as service manager is at the dentist,so I suggest a phone call might help and I return to the coffee ang mags, put my feet up and try to relax. After about another 15mins a very helpful mechanic arrives ,who overheard the conversation apologies for what has happened, says the £100 has been deducted but it had to be checked with Skoda uk(as it might be a copy presumely that I had faked,my words not his)anyway thanks to him and still no sign of the service manager(wishing now I was HIS dentist)feeling like victor meldrew off I drove.

Is it the first service as that would normally be 10k or 12 months which ever comes 1st on the fixed service regime and £199 seems either too expensive for a minor or too cheap for a major service if they are signed up to the national service rates. Is there another dealer local to you?

It doesn't matter whether the car was on Fixed or Variable service regime, it should be serviced at 12 monthly intervals if it hasn't been done before then.

Not all Dealers have signed up to the National Pricing system apparently, so it is worth checking the costs before hand. The Dealer I use provides me with a quote for all work in advance.

I wonder if the OP has read the reviews of the dealer in Bristol?

This lot are only about 4miles away in Bath so it's quite handy to go shopping, there is another main dealer not much further and have been good the last time I used them so will go back to them.never had to pay for a Skoda service before so not sure about costs.

The car's ecu tells you when the variable service is due. My first service last week was at 16 months and 6000 miles but some people who do more miles get a longer period between services. Mine cost £195 so it looks like you have been charged for the minor variable service.

I thought a maximum of 12 months but I've had mine for just over a month and 1000 ish miles and it's showing this!

Yep, that's variable servicing.

Fixed service is 12 months. Variable is just that, variable. Depending how you drive determines when the service will be due. I haven't got maxidot so just had to wait until the oil change message came on.

Mine was at 2 years 12,000 miles cost £165 a 1.6 Greenline

I wasn't that concerned about the cost ,but wanted a 12 month service due to some shortish runs and low mileage in the last 12 months and intend keeping the car some time wanted no warranty issues with service dates, strangely now after inspection and service ,in service on mfd it shows oil change 9400 mls 365 days and inspection 14000mls 285 days ,must be some Skoda dice the are throwing.?

Hi Sad555,

I put my Yeti in for a full service at 11 months & 13000 miles.

Told them what I wanted and they agreed to do so.

On collection number of items not done, their answer - Oh! they don't need doing, so they did not do them.

Phoned Skoda UK and complained, they contacted the dealer who phoned me to ask for car back to finish what I asked for.

Rest of work done FOC.

I think next time they WILL DO as I ask.

It's my car and my money, if they don't want my custom, say so and I'll go elsewhere.

Variable is up to approx. 20,000 miles or 2 years.

Most Skoda models are set to variable from the factory so there is every chance a brand new car won't see the dealer until 24 months old.

Anyone paying more than £139 for an annual service (fixed - 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is reached first) should check with their dealer at the time of booking the car in.

Even those not participating in Skoda's National Pricing Policy might price match especially if there is another dealer close by...

Thanks for that,Just checked Skoda servicing on line and the first service at platinum Bath was meant to be £179 and Blades Skoda Bristol £149 ,but as I had the £100 pound off from their last round of bad customer care it was better for me to go to Bath, free parking at the garage, but it will be the last time there for me.

I have never used the Skoda dealer(s) I bought my Skodas from as they are too far away. I use a Skoda Authorised Service agent located 30mins away. They are exactly the same as a Skoda dealer except they don't sell Skoda cars. They have a resident Skoda Master Tech and also service Mercedes and Mazda. They have full access to the Skoda service database and all Skoda parts. They always quote the cost when booking and offer a loan car or collection and return and,so far, have been competitive.
