Featured Replies

And what's wrong with an Octy then?

Octy ii hasn't got the same allure of an Audi A4 IMHO

Or the same price tag!

The OctyII 2.0TDi is a quicker motor than the equivalent A4 too.

Hi all

When you say a small executive car or do you mean a car for a small executive? A small executive car is surely an oxymoron? VAG group do some execs, Bently, Phaeton, A8, but anything less is just a mid range saloon, sport saloon etc.

Same for BMW, 7 series is Exec, others are sports coupe and mid management.

Mercs the same, big engined E class and above for execs, rest for wannabes.

XJ jags, LS430 Lexus,

We seem to be devaluing the language here with talk of executive cars that are the kind of thing that middle management buy. Mind you anyone can be called a sales executive now, so a Pug 307 diesel qualifies.

There are some superb mid range saloons out there (pun intended), many of which have been mentioned in this thread but true executive travel is not small or mid range, it is the excess end of the market.

Chris

If we are looking at 'small executive', should we not be considering the Superb rather than the Octy ?

like i said above

my 9 month old A4 quattro cost the same as a basic spec'd new octy 2 vRS

yeah before someone jumps on my back its not like with like(new with new) buts just pointing out for the sake of 9months the octy isnt a total bargin compared with the listed cars

Yup I also don't think the Octy is a the bargain it used to be.

yeah i agree, but its still good value compared with other cars ie Golf Gti.

but i chose the 9month car over the brand new one. and my car is as good if not better spec'd than the new vRS. yip its a whole 10bhp down but i wanted 4wd too.

down to a personal choice really but when both were the same price and the A4 is cheaper to insure it was an easy choice

Isn't the A4 also larger than the Octy2, being based on a floorpan larger than the Golf's?

maybe slightly bigger but tbh there isnt much in it

Agreed. The old A4 had serious legroom problems in the back. I think the current model has addressed this but word is the OctyII has great rear legroom.

Just checked (i know it's sad), the 2005 A4 is 14mm longer than the Octy II.

You would think that given the previous A4 legroom issue and the fact that the car is longer than the Skoda, it would also have better legroom too.

Wrong, the A4 has 871mm of rear legroom and the Skoda has 883mm. A difference of 12mm.

Doesn't sound like much but everyone knows from long haul flights that an extra 1/2 inch of legroom can really make a difference to comfort.

Sorry to go on about this but isnt the Passat/Audi A4/ Superb the same platform ?

Whereas the the Octy is Golf/A3 based ?

And if thats true how the hell do Skoda get more rear legroom in the Octy (A3) than Audi do in the A4 ?

Didn't you know! Skoda always give a little bit extra.

I would go for the Audi A4. BMW drivers have a bad rep, Merc too posh.

No chance on the Saab 9-3 as it`s a Vauxhall Vectra under pinnings.

as far as im aware both the Passat and Superb have lengthened platforms based on the a4's on. so similar platforms but really different sized. i may be wrong tho :o

I really don't get the obsession with Audis. Does anyone else think they look pretty dull? They're not exactly striking to look at, are they?

you dont like the pictures of mine on page 1 then ???

i guess its as striking as any other family saloon.

your fabia is striking how?

:hooray: I'm not alone. :D

I think the fact they are discreet looking is what attracts a lot of people, but I suspect most of it is in the badge. Which is why people don't like BMW's and Mercs! :)

oh im glad you put most in there ;) because car badges mean nothing to me. IMHO my current car is miles better than my octy was and does look better......oh and it has a lovely badge

I'd agree with that, and in my (limited to A4 SE PD130 and A3 1.8T Sport) experience a bit uninspiring to drive and lacking steering feel, handling and any real involvement, found in their rivals. Well built cars maybe, but not a driver's car imho :D

god my car is getting slated here

would you deem the octy vRS good at handling? the accord type r? cause for some reason, must be a freak of audi manufacturing but it has out handled many of these without evenh struggling tbh and yes i have witnesses

Should hope so too, Audi being a more "premium" brand than Skoda! :D
