Best small executive car?

Featured Replies

would you deem the octy vRS good at handling? the accord type r? cause for some reason, must be a freak of audi manufacturing but it has out handled many of these without evenh struggling tbh and yes i have witnesses

I wouldn't dispute that any Audi I've driven actually *has* handled well...just that there's a kind of detachment between the steering wheel and the wheels, and it did strike me as more so than in the Octy (which seemed a bit strange).

Mind you, I thought the Octy had plenty of feel until I got back in a car without power steering, and that brought back just how much of the feeling is damped by power steering these days.

for the same price as a new octy vRS ;)

But considering 17.5% of the new car price will be VAT, I think that's more of a case of buying a used car over a new car... ;)

That said, if it were my money and the only choice was Octy vRS or A4 such as yours, I suspect I'd go for the Audi. :)

Rob.

you dont like the pictures of mine on page 1 then ???

i guess its as striking as any other family saloon.

your fabia is striking how?

No, I don't like it: the Mondeo is just as interesting to look at, which is 'not very'. It's not the sort of car that stands out at all, is it?

The Fabia isn't striking either. But then, I bought it for the engineering under the skin: I love the combination of performance and economy, and the handling is...OK. And I thought the price was great.

What wouldn't be OK would be to buy a very similar car (in mechanical terms) for a lot more money, just to get a different badge.

Audi fall on the side of 'boring' rather than 'understated', to my eyes. There's something rather smug about their image, which I find completely distasteful. It's like wearing an expensive watch: it doesn't tell the time any better than a cheap one, but it lets people know that you can afford it.

yeah i know the VAT is the major thing but even spec wise audi is better and i loved my old octy, not driven the new one yet but the a4 really would run rings round my old one. but to me the A4 was an easy choice and still would be

as for the sterring, i would say i havent noticed any difference between the octy but compared with my manual golf steering, nothing beats it

OI! Don't start on my car :P:rofl:

But you didn't buy it for its looks, did you?

Mondeos handle well, and have some excellent engines. They're a really good buy second-hand.

And they look just as interesting as an Audi... :P

I really don't get the obsession with Audis. Does anyone else think they look pretty dull? They're not exactly striking to look at, are they?

Im not sure why it is but some people always seem to expect too much from some cars. My 9month old a4 quattro cost me less than

I thought 'executive' was sort of wafting about in a nice plush car :D

Don't know why there is real worries about them being 'drivers'cars, they normally only travel in straight lines up and down motorways. There are other cars that fit the 'great handling ' criteria :)

They have made a mess of the new A4 with the new front and rear...last one far nicer.By the same token,BMW's new 3 looks horrible/mitsubishi Charisma'ish as opposed to the last one which looked ok

from all the cars ive owned u will see i dont buy them to stand out, saying that you tell that to everyone that looks and comments on it. ive had plenty of people even stop me at petrol stations asking about it. and if you knew me its not really the attention i want

so why do you have a skoda when there are cheaper cars that still get you from a to b??

Really? I'd be amazed if anyone ever asked anyone about any VAG product.

The Skoda is the cheapest 130 bhp diesel you can buy. No-one else makes a quick, small diesel for similar money. But I don't consider it to be special, and plaster pictures of it all over forums, to 'see what people think'.

You claim that you don't want your car to stand out: why did you start this thread?

I must say I don't like 4wd saloons' date=' either: it murders the steering feedback, reduces performance and economy, and yet doesn't actually improve grip: it's still the same 4 tyres in contact with the road.[/quote']

maybe you should open your eyes as i didnt start the thread

if you want to criticise and slag me off use PM and keep the thread for discussion of the cars on not my choice to buy anything other than a skoda.

some people may want this thread to be useful and not a slagging match

anyway im going to stop replying to this thread as ive been replying in a lighthearted manner and id like it to stay that way :)

everyone has there own views im just pointing out people seem to expect more than what they should :)

I wasn't slagging you off: I was just slagging off your overpriced, boring repmobile.

Some people don't expect enough.

thats fair enough, like i said above regarding the price the pd 140 octy was dearer as is the new vRS, fair enough it was new but had less spec than the a4 :)

TBH you'll struggle to get an extraordinary car that Mr Average (or above average for that matter) can afford.

The A4 is a nice car, much nicer internally than anything in the Skoda range, that's where the price premium comes from. There are a lot about but that doesn't make the car any better or worse. The downside is that like-for-like you've got to go second hand. Some people are happy to do this, some aren't. It's down to an individual's priorities, which there is no right or wrong on.

So let's all play nice and agree the Furby's the best.
