Fuel economy - how will these mods affect it?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

After some advice (again) :o

Im planning to do the Allard FMIC, the TIP, blueflame stainless exhaust with sports cat and downpipe and I was wondering how it affected the economy of the car. At present I get around 350 from a tank covering my cummuting to work and social activities - no motorway driving involved at all.

I was just wondering, ideally from anyone that has done the above mods - how will these mods affect the fuel consumption of the car? The injectors, fuel reg. and turbo will remain standard.

I will then get the car remapped and run the turbo at 1 bar max (K03s). The car is currently running 190bhp/209lb/ft torque.

Cheers,

Lee

Shouldn't make much difference assuming you drive the same. However if you start to take advantage of the performance gain then you'll see a drop in mpg.

Generally, because of the mods you'll push the car harder. This will result is lower MPG.

If you drive the car at the same speed, same acceleration on the same road - you should see little or nothing in the way of MPG reduction.

WOW - now that would be impressive!

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Any more opinions out there? :)

Agree with the others, IF & its abig IF you can restrain your right foot & with a decent map mpg shouldnt suffer & might even improve.

HOWEVER it wont but the size of your smile will :):)

I can get about 33 on a run being reosnably careful but I tend to average about 24-26 & on track I managed to use a tank at an average of 7.9

A good thought & something I am considering is to fit Cruise control, weve got it on the Diesel & it just seems to relax you more on long runs & the mpg will improve accordingly

I have an Octy vrs, i have the Forge TIP, CAI with Cotton Gauze filter, Lower intercooler pipe, descreened and smoothed Maf, Forge DV, when I put the CAI on the mpg actually improved quite significantly, I even saw the range after filling up one day as 500miles!

I have regularly seen 42-44 on th m6 to Stafford and back from stockport I agree with Stuart about the Cruise control, does make a difference

You will definately see a mpg drop imo. Why else would you fit performance mods if not to take advantage of them?:D

Thats true to an extent but what I dont want is a car that drinks the fuel even when pootling or changing gear at 2,500rpm. If I want fun its great to know its there to be used with more foot movement but I need to keep the car reasonable in terms of fuel useage for my rather mundane daily commute.

Cheers for the help so far

I think i must have a leak in my tank....before the JBS i was getting 250miles max, now its 200!!!  Thats averaging 19mpg.... :thumbdwn:

But...and it is a big but...it's grin factor 10

Surely i'm not the only one with crap fuel economy?? Or is my right foot not the only thing? I look at all these posts and think my car has summat wrong with it!

Admittedly i can claim most of it back through work and its mainly town driving with thje occasional blast on dual carriageways, but surely it should be better??

I changed from Revo to Custom Code and continued to drive the same and saw an improvement in fuel consumption of around 10% (330miles/tank compared to 300miles/tank).

I suspect you're just using the extra performance, you should calm down after a month or so and see it back at similar levels to post remap. BTW after your coil pack change did you do a throttle body alignment as this can effect many aspects of the cars running.

You're not the only one, I'm getting about 25mpg without a remap. Problem is most of my driving is city driving and it just kills the fuel economy, on the motorway it's great in comparison.

Around 260bhp and still getting at least 27mpg average and 300+ miles to a tank (Optimax though). Should have had Revo or a SEAT

Wasps....****, :finger: you know how it goes, I aint no paella eating seat owner for a reason!! :P Anyway, i'd never find it in a car park, far too common, my cars easy to find, head for the crowd of envious onlookers waiting to ask me for a go!!

As for throttle body alignment, what does that involve? Is it something to tackle yourself or a dealer/mechanic type job? Just aboput to go change the plugs mind, see if that helps, bet the old ones are bo**xed after driving it round mis-firing!

P.S mine is sainsburys special super unleaded, not optimax...perhaps i'll try that, nearer payday though!! :D
