2014 VRS Sise Sensor issues

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have been having some issues with the sensors. The side ones go off randomly from time to time in traffic or turning into a junction.

If beeps as if you are about to hit something.

See two pictures attached of an example whilst sat in traffic. Both photos taken without moving or anything around me moving...

VW service did the 2500km standard service and checked for faults but found nothing. Said they would need it for at least a day for extensive testing but I'm concerned they may not find anything again!

It happens fairly often.

Anyone else had the same issue?

I found the side sensors to be extremely sensitive and announce that you are about to scrape the side of your car, when there are at least 40 cm between the wall and the car (which kinda defeats the purpose of why I got the side sensors in the first place: narrow driveway to the garage). Mine have come on when stopping at the till for an automated barrier to enter a parking, but I was moving, if only very slowly.

Could it be the case for you that the sensors switch on as you drive slower than 10-20km/h and thus give you a signal even at standstill, or do they switch on when you are at standstill?

Thanks TomLux appreciate it. I think the things are separate. I agree that the sensors are sensitive and go off a bit early as if you are about to hit something that you are approaching / passing.

But the issue i am having is different. The sensors will go off when nothing is close. I can either be at a stand still or moving slow (never above about 20kms). The pictures are a good example because if the sensors were picking up a car it should set - off more than one of the panels.

I think I'll have to persist with the dealer until they can solve it! hopefully i get a loan car!

ah yes I didn't notice that it has only one bar as red. I don't know, maybe a faulty sensor? I don't know how the front and back side sensor talk to each other to determine how many of the side bars the system will show as "detecting something". Could be that one is defect and detects invisible objects and the other isn't, thus showing only one bar.

Let the dealer sort it, but as often it's non reproducible I guess. Sorry that I can't be more helpful. If I should encounter the same thing I'll let you know.

I have been having some issues with the sensors. The side ones go off randomly from time to time in traffic or turning into a junction.

Time to revive this one I think: I had a weird incident today when my side sensor went off. I was in a traffic jam next to a truck. Everytime his airbrake let go my sensor went off. Could it be that you experienced something similar?

Mine seem to go off next to some lorries as well, not very often though.

There's a good chance the sensors are picking up the heat from the truck exhausts. Aftermarket car alarms were bad for it in the early 90's, if you put the sensors too close the heating ducts. So if a car drove past, the wind when passing would push hot air out the vents and trigger the alarms.

I'm guessing its the heat thing too.  My left side rear sensor goes nuts when I reverse during a DPF regen....

Mine drove me mad so I turned them off during normal driving and now they only come on when I put the car in reverse, hit the button, or until I reach (I think) 10KPH after they've been switched on by one of the previously mentioned methods.
