Retrofit Columbus....end of.

Hi Folks,

I found this from a supplier local to me its looks very good but am I missing something? The price seems much lower than anywhere else I've come across.

Thanks for the heads up. It does say it's OEM but I thought it was to good to be true.

Google maps on iPhone or Android. It's simply much more reliable than any current TomTom or Garmin, which in turn are better than any built-in systems I have seen.

If you dont have Bluetooth already try and source an Amundsen+. There is a variant that is DAB and Bluetooth capable...a very nice OEM one box solution to add quite a bit of addtional functionality to an Mk2.

Freesat for iPhone is immense and free!

I'd disagree with that.  I've used garmin and tom tom plus iphone/ google maps etc. and had oem columbus.

The columbus doesn't need to be plugged in/charged up, suckered on the windscreen, trailing cables etc, and integrates with your car so that your music etc is muted for commands, and your directions are displayed on maxidot right in front of you.

Yes its expensive, but factory all the way for me.

I don't like phones as sat navs at all too much faffing with cables holders, and unless you live in the city and never drive out of it forget it in the uk. The phone maps rely on a data signal 3G or 4G which is non existent out side of towns, you can forget going anywhere rural and expect it to work. If you start your journey in a town sometimes the whole route is cached but not always. If you start your journey in an area with no data you are completely stuffed, if you go off the cached track you are stuffed again no sat nav.

I've a Garmin installed in the dash top compartment, works well and is inexpensive and neat:

Having said that my experience of phone sat nav is iphone and Android google maps - both hopeless. My wife has a Windows phone which has  built in nokia maps (I think they are) which doesn't need a signal and got us out of trouble a few times when I had the others (iphone/Android) failed miserably due to no data signal.
