Sport suspension and fixed rear beam setup. Improve?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Our july O3 came with the sport suspension. It is okay, but a little ... hmm. Not sure how to describe it.

Driving some OEM sport suspension Audi A6s and having Koni's and lowering springs on an Audi 100, those tends to handle small bumps etc better in my opinion. Some sort of comfort is brought to it, rather than the Octavia's way of almost "rattling" frequency when handling such. (no, no real rattling as in loose parts or so.)

When making the 5000km oil change (it's a multi componentary turbo engine, ofcourse I don't need excessive particle wear in the beginning), I was handed a RS in the meantime. And it just sits so much more comfortable than tha 140hp on sport suspension. How/why? Is it due non-progressive springs and spring rates being a bit off for the lighter 1.4 unit?

Through it all, I found the Eibach pro-kit package including Bilstein B6 or B8. Does anyone have proper experience with those or inputs, as to get a more matching setup on the car?

The RS has an independent rear suspension that handles rough surfaces better than the torsion beam our cars have.

Are you shure they removed the transport....ehhh(don't know what it is called)  thing in the suspension? Some sort of plastic they put in between the springs I think, when they are transporting the car from the factory. Mine wasen't and it made a lot of noice. Workshop removed it, and the rattle was gone. One happy guy :)

Theres another thread nearby about rough riding. Matt Pez is going for the Eibach kit and B4s to try and improve the comfort of his car. Albeit he doesn't have sport suspension.

I'll obviously let the forum know how I get on with the pro kit and the B4s. I've got to wait 2 weeks for Demon Tweeks to import the B4s from Germany cos Bilstein not got any in the UK at the mo for the O3. Reason I went for B4s over the B6s is after reading up on this topic since before xmas, there was a thread over on the Superb forum recommending my final choice as a good compromise between handling and comfort more suited to motorway mile munching whereas the B6s are more aimed at those looking for a more sporty set up.
