What price are people paying for indy services?

Featured Replies

As title says, just wondering what people are paying for non dealer servicing? Mine is gonna go indy from now on in, and just curious as to what others are shelling out for standard major/minor servicing so myself and others get an impression of what they should be expecting to pay, and be able to compare to see if there's much difference between sticking with big dealer prices bearing in mind you CAN get service plans which include mot's as well. :)

Haven't looked for the Octavia but for our Ibiza we use the main dealer. The fixed price servicing (same price as the Skoda fixed prices) is only a few quid more than any local Indy dealer. The main dealer does a reasonable job so that's good enough for me.

As for the Octy, I'm going to stick with Progress Skoda Letchworth as they do a good job too.

First question - where are you? then we might know an indy nearby.

A VAG indy in south west london was quoting me more than Skoda a couple of years ago when I enquired.

My Skoda dealer are offering a minor service for £60, a major service for £100 and a major service plus 2 X MoT's for £149.

This is for all makes and Skodas over 3 years old. Asked what the difference was between these services and a Skoda service and they stated they would be using non Skoda parts. It's a Skoda only dealership, Skoda mechanics working on the vehicle, and they'll stamp the Service Book. I will probably have to pay a wee bit more to cover the extra cost of oil for the PD engine.

I'm thinking of alternating annually between a major service (2 x MoT's) and a Skoda minor service that way I'll get any Skoda software updates.

Routine services seem to me to be relatively cheap at main dealers, and worth it for the service history.

Cambelt, clutch, exhaust stuff seems to be cheaper at independents.

Find i get a good service from a small garage across the street that is neither a VW Indy, or Skoda dealer. Last time i used a Skoda main dealer they knowingly put the wrong spec oil in my car, saying that as i serviced my car every year and did not follow the variable service regime i did not need long-life oil. They put Vw 502.00 spec oil in instead of Vw 504.00 and also said something about the cost of the correct oil being to much for the price they charged for the service, and which if my memory serves me y was £104 for a minor service.

The garage across the street would have charged me £160 for the full service and used the correct oil.

That's correct! The right oil is 502 if not on variable service. 504 if it is.

I didn't know that, however it is my personal choice not to stick with the correct (Variable) service schedule and to change the oil every year, or 10'000 miles,  and i'd expected to get the better quality oil.

So only one person has actually given a price yet... :notme:

Bloke round the corner says £80 which is cheap, and he is fine, just wondering what prices others are doing?

1.6cr 10k service from Indy in Kent was £135. Correct oil, stamped book and Skoda parts.

You can have the 504 oil if you want but you have to ask for it and pay extra. So i dont think you can say they used the "wrong" oil.

Thanks fin, but not sure where you're going with that; they seem like bigger work than just a bog standard 10k service on most posts there.

Where are VW Indy garages in Kent I am near Maidstone I only no Skoda main dealers near me.

To be honest take it to the main dealer and book in as lights and levels sevice but supply your own parts because you will need to keep your skoda stamp up to date for your anti corrosion warranty is ten years

GMS, Gilbralter Lane, behind the BP garage as you go out of Maidstone towards Bluebell Hill. My usual guy in Biggin Hill was away looked up these guys, mostly good news so went with them. Polite and quick service, would use them again.

Interim service (No 11 on fixed, 105,530 miles)

+ Rear Brake Pads £253 incl VAT

Although primarily about cambelt and waterpump prices, about three of the posts mentioned indy servicing costs for minor and major servicing.

Is this different to the other ruling where the law says you don't have to have dealer servicing to maintain the usual warranty anymore??

TBH when I went to an indy it was only 10-20% cheaper than main dealer. But he did a better job and I trusted him. I didn't trust the stealer.

Now I'm back at a main dealer again since I've got warranty I remember why I liked going to the indy.

If and when you find a good indy, hold onto them for dear life. I'm having to go back to my dealer for the third time for the same issue. First time (last week)they didn't order in all the parts they needed even though I showed them the damaged parts, second time (today), was informed the text message I received on Sunday informing me I was booked in today is automatically generated by the system. So I am provisionally booked in for tomorrow, if the parts arrive today.

Totally. I only stopped using him when I moved 50 miles away and it was getting a bit silly. Luckily found another good VAG guy locally then.

Listing prices is largely irrelevant unless you also show the work being done for the money.

There is so much variation between minor/major, fixed/variable, long life/interim etc. etc.

A service can consist of the following:

Oil and oil filter

Air filter

Fuel filter

Pollen filter

Spark plugs (petrol)

Brake fluid

Anything else is maintenance.

What are you getting for £80?

  • Author

Just oil and filter and general check. It's £130 for all the other filters. No mention of sparks or brake fluid as I told him the service last year was the big 60k one so sparks should have been changed anyway. Fuel filter is only changed when it doesn't work or develops a fault, according to the stealers... I asked them specifically a few weeks ago why it hadn't been changed automatically last year.

So basically, just about what the Skoda OE website says you get for your £139, minus the pollen filter.

While I'm here then, does anyone know any particularly good VAG garages worth talking to around the Farnborough to Wokingham area, as that's where I live and work?
